      Behringer

A professional large-diaphragm condenser microphone with a built-in USB interface so you can record faster than ever in both live and studio applications.

The Behringer C-1U USB mic is a digital home recording or podcasting enthusiast's dream. This professional quality condenser microphone is identical to the acclaimed Behringer C-1 mic with one awesome difference: it's has a built-in USB interface so you can be ready to record faster than ever and with minimal preparation and equipment. Just plug it into your computer and start recording.

What is a USB Condenser Microphone?
As the primary type of microphone used in recording studios and radio stations, condenser microphones are the ideal choice for capturing vocals and acoustic instruments. Unlike a dynamic microphone, a condenser microphone collects sound from throughout an environment such as a room, rather than only picking up what's happening directly in front of it. It is capable of capturing much more detail with a wider, flatter frequency response. Trouble is, conventional condenser microphones aren't made to interface with a computer—you have to provide a microphone preamplifier and an analog to a USB interface. The C-1U has a built-in USB interface that derives the needed power directly from your computer's USB input and requires no special drivers. Just plug in and start recording your music.

Unlike most other USB microphones, you won't need to download any additional drivers to begin using the Behringer C-1U right out of the box—it even works with Vista. You also get an extensive software package that includes: Audacity for recording, Kristal Audio Engine for editing and multitracking, plus Podifier uploading software and PodNova downloading software. It works like this: Connect the mic to your PC or Mac. Load Audacity and save your recording onto your hard drive. Now load the included Kristal software and you can edit your recording or add tracks. Now you're ready to upload your work onto the Web via Podifier.

Getting started with the USB mic may seem like child's play, but this pro-caliber microphone is anything but a toy. It has an exceptionally flat frequency response and pristine sonic resolution that ensures content-rich audio that is as natural sounding as the original source. The cardioid pickup pattern provides unparalleled sound source separation and feedback rejection. The Behringer C-1U's ultra low-noise, transformerless field-effect transistor (FET) input circuitry can handle extreme dynamics, all the way up to 136 dB, with ruler-flat frequency response from 40 Hz to 20 kHz. That means that even if the special guest on your next podcast happens to be a revved-up jet engine, this workhorse mic will not distort.

Why You Need a Behringer C-1U USB Microphone:
•Far better sound quality than the dynamic microphones you may be using
•With its built-in USB interface and comprehensive software package, just plug it in and start laying down tracks
•You don't have to download any new drivers, and it's perfectly compatible with Windows XP/Vista and Mac

Comments about Behringer C-1U USB Studio Condenser Mic:

There is absolutely NO excuse why we have to waste so much time and money to try and get this (blank) mic to work. When it did work there was so much hum and loud noise that we couldn't even use it to record anything. This is the absolute worse mic that I have ever purchased! Using Win7, tried other computers and operating systems but still the same LOUD NOISE! With all this technology there's NO excuse for putting anything on the market that's so complicated to setup and then to hear 1940'S SOUND QUALITY!! Returning ASAP!

Comments about Behringer C-1U USB Studio Condenser Mic:

I use this as an instructional designer for a company that pumps out e-learning and voiceovers. Out of the box, the sound is quite good. The volume is not super but if you can use Audacity you can overcome. Definitely recommend a good windscreen as you will need to get right on top of the mic to even come close to clipping. Not great as the only mic recording a group or interview. However, if you're a musician and stick this right in front of an amp or belt out some lyrics - this should be fine.

Comments about Behringer C-1U USB Studio Condenser Mic:

Used this for an at-home music project, recording with Garageband, and the USB function was too good to pass up, especially considering the quality and price of the mic. Has worked out great form me. Would have been nice to have some way to connect with xlr, but that is a very minor complaint.

Comments about Behringer C-1U USB Studio Condenser Mic:

I bought the C-1U for voice over work for my company. I did a 'trial' voice over using this mic and it went "up the line" at headquarters to the point that I'm now the "voice" for the company. This mic is easy to use, good sound, easy to use (I use it with Windows 7) and so far I like it. The computer "sees" the mic as a "DVD Quality" microphone. No noise. Clear voice recording.

I purchased this microphone as a starter mic when i broke out of being produced and started producing. for the price...you cant beat this mic, alot of people say that they are and have been producing or call themselves "engineers" and leave crappy reviews but they say they use programs suck as (audacity)...haha thats the problem i use adobe audition and with program quality enhances sound quality on any mic.

i like to just play and sing and i realized i could use some software on my laptop and make some pretty cool songs. this mic fits the bill. simple, well made, nice warranty, and attractive product. i don't get too crazy about the details, if it can capture music and is easy to use and doesn't cost a ton of money, works for me.
