Comments about KJOS All for Strings Book 1 Violin:
This book starts out with a rote section, which focuses on rhythm and uses letters instead of notes on the staff. But you can skip ahead to the note/staff section, too. It starts the student out with easy keys for violin so that they can have the same fingering for each string, which I think is very important for the beginning. By the end of the book the student will be able to play in the keys of C, D, G, and A, with eighth notes and dynamics.
I highly recommend using the Solos and Etudes bk 1 by Frost and Anderson because it has more interesting and longer songs to hold the student's interest. I also recommend the theory book by Frost because it really helps the student understand rhythm, note reading, finger patterns related to different keys, and other important things.
