The Latin Percussion EZX for EZdrummer contains the percussion sounds from the revolutionary, award-winning pro drum sampler, Drums From Hell Superior from Toontrack Music. The EZX includes midi files that will add that extra groove on top of your steady drumtrack. The Latin Percussion EZX uses TPC, Toontrack Percussive Compression.

Percussionist Mikael Emsing on the recordings:
"I was excited when Toontrack asked me to collaborate on this product. Most of the work I've done in the studio and live have not been traditional Latin or African music, but rather Rock, Pop or Jazz-type sessions. Most of the sampling libraries I've come across however, have been geared more towards traditional Ethnic music. I felt there was a need for a sample library with sounds adapted to these situations.

I've spent years studying traditional music, but also spent an equal amount of time trying to get some sort of "signature" sound, a sound that works live as well as in the studio, a sound that has some soul to it and I wanted to be sure that came through on the sampled sounds. Much to my satisfaction the guys from Toontrack shared my vision and from the get-go we planned and recorded everything with this in mind. I also wanted a wide variety of sounds and through the generous help of MEINL Percussion we have been able to provide the vital instruments for making recordings in the aforementioned genres. All the instruments were recorded in different sizes and materials. From large to small, from wood to fiberglass etc. Carrying this DVD around will be a lot easier than lugging all those instruments around (thank god for cartage services by the way...). Time to get the groove going."

Decent Expansion to EZDrumer

By Sonic Pleasures

from Seattle, Wa

Comments about Toontrack Latin Percussion EZX Sample Library:

I buy all these toontrack expansions like this specifically for EZ drummer and I own all but a few of the expansions. I saw a complaint about the grooves but I don't understand it. It performs the same as all the other libraries. The samples sound great and the midi loops are right on. I'd buy this again in the heartbeat. I want them to make a world expansion then my set would be complete.

Not bad at all

By Vain Melody

from Canada

Comments about Toontrack Latin Percussion EZX Sample Library:

After seeing the bad review here by 16guitars, I just had to run out and buy this ... I couldn't believe it was as bad as was suggested ... well, that and I always wanted Latin instruments, I have EZdrummer and it was on sale.Maybe they changed/updated it since but there are full ensemble rythmns. For the most part you get separate files for each instrument, so you can add them seperately easily, which I prefer. But there are several full ensemble variations, including ones for Samba. Even without these full ensembles I still would have bought it.I use Cubase and EZdrummer always follows the tempo I set in my project. It didn't take a special setting, it just does it. That way I can easily audition drum tracks against my already recorded music. For example, I can play my bass track on a loop and try out several drum patterns until I find one that fits. Only then do I have to actually add the midi file to the project. If you couldn't audition tracks and had to follow the cumbersome process detailed by 16guitars, then yeah, I'd agree this program is time consuming. The program isn't perfect - it compromises customability and control of more precise details for ease of use. Time consuming it is not.

Plan on lots of time

Comments about Toontrack Latin Percussion EZX Sample Library:

Unlike the EZDrummer package that this sample library plugs into, there are no full rhythms included - each percussion instrument is sampled separately. This means that you have to construct your laboriously one instrument at a time. This is a great option to have, but it would also benice to pick "Samba" and start off with a full samba mix, not the bongos, then the congas, then the timbales, etc. Very time consuming. The biggest problem I have with EZDrummer generally, and when working with the Latin Percussion library is that when you play the sample within EZDrummer it does not follow the tempo set in your project (at least in Sonar 5.2). So to really hear what the sample will sound like at the correct tempo, you have to drag and drop it into a MIDI track. One instrument, and one sample at a time. EZ? Quick? I think not.
