OVERVIEW

Addictive Drums is a complete drum production studio. It has everything you need to make a professional drumtrack production. It's flexible, yet very quick to learn and use.

Concept: 3 Vital Parts
Addictive Drums is built on three major, and equally important, building blocks that are a necessity for a complete drum production:

Drum Samples
Drum samples of professional quality from the best drum kit brands available recorded in a studio with great acoustics, a multi-mic setup, and stored in a multichannel format.

Production Tools
Mixer, insert effects, reverbs, and the know-how of a sound technician/producer.

Beats & Fills
Grooves, beats, and fills recorded by a great drummer in different styles, tempos, and feels.

Addictive Drums offers all this, in one easy-to-use plug-in that is compatible with all the major host softwares out there

User Interface
Addictive Drums consists of four main pages: the Kit Page where you can view all of the kit pieces; the Edit Page with all the insert effects; the FX Page with reverbs; and the Beats Page which contains the 3500+ MIDI file library.

The Map Window
The Map Window is where all the settings for the E-Drum Support are located. Edit your Map Presets, customize the settings for velocity and volume on the kitpieces, tweak the hi-hat settings, and more. You open the Map Window from the Beats Page.

Main Features
Production Presets
With one click, you can load up a complete drum production. The settings for the Kit, the Insert Effects, and the 2 built-in Reverbs are recalled in a split second. You can Save your own presets and organize them in folders for quick access in any project. They appear automatically in the preset menu. Addictive Drums gives you over 100 presets in diverse production styles such as Rock, Electronic, Distorted, PopRock and more.

Full E-Drums Support
Take E-Drumming to a new level with Addictive Drums 1.5 Adrenaline. All of the major E-Drum models on the market are fully supported and setting up has never been easier. E-Drums connected to Addictive Drums will provide you with one of the most realistic E-drums drum sounds on the market with fast workflow and powerful mixing possibilities. With Addictive Drums you will be jamming and recording drums for your music in no time.

Drums and Cymbals
Addictive Drums comes with a vast library of drum and cymbal samples recorded and in a professional studio with great care. A total of three kits and lots of cymbals from the top brands in the world are included.

Total control over drumkits and kitpieces
Everthing in Addictive Drums can be tweaked and customized. Load up an entire drum kit or build your own. Use the kitpiece list to view, audition, and switch the kit pieces in the drum kit or just use the arrows next to the kitpice on the Edit Page.

Beats and Grooves
Addictive Drums comes with over 3500 MIDI Beats and Grooves that trigger the drum samples inside the software. You can use any beat with any kit pieces or presets. Lots of different styles, tempos, and feels are represented.

Inserts and Effects
The inserts and effects are used to shape the drum sound you are working with. Addictive Drums comes with a number of inserts and effects like EQ, Compressor, and Distortion that can make your drum sound go from natural acoustic pop to distorted electronic house in just a few seconds.

User Friendliness

If you haven't already, download the free version from XLNAudio. For two reasons, set up an account with the company (which you'll have to do anyway) and to test your system. It also helps to familiarize yourself with the download process. If you haven't much experience with downloading these types of software platforms, you might find it a little daunting at first. If you have computer skills you should breeze right through with no issues. It's a large program and it took quite awhile to download, but once it finished, Mixcraft 5 recongnized the new VST and it loaded up quick. I was "drumming" in no time.
If you're familiar with soundfonts and/or use them, keep a copy of some of your favorite drum/cymbal sounds to augment the drum tracks you create with AD. Softdrums makes a great free SF player and there are hundreds of well made soundfonts and wav drum/cymbal samples on the net for free. I used to create my
drum kits with SF's but it's a time consuming and tedious task. AD is simple, sounds great. If your a keyboard drummer you won't be disappointed. I don't use preset beats myself, but there are many and they're really quite good. Lot's of useful effects and the all important key mapping function is perfectly easy.
After considering the several awesome drum software companies out there, I went with AD because I wanted something with good drum samples, something not to over the top complicated and the decent price didn't hurt.
I think I made the right choice for me.

I am told this software sounds great, the problem is that their "online installer" wouldn't work on my (pretty normal) system. I worked with their support. They were not terribly prompt, but stuck with it for a while. After a couple weeks of trying , the XLN support folks finally told me that others were having the same issue and they had no solution. They pointed me at their "offline" installer. That didn't work either. If it works for you, good deal. It was a waste of time and energy for me.

A glorified drum machine/metronome!

By

from Twin Cities, MN

About Me Experienced

Comments about XLN Audio Addictive Drums:

Hay! It's a glorified drum machine/metronome with the security features of the Whitehouse. A few hours to download (DSL) and a complicated dramatic install that still wants an authorization code that is according to the website "out of date" and now automated. An automated email support system that took from 1 to 3 days to send exactly the same reply for 3 separate install issues with a solution that does not work! Still waiting for that Authorization code…

Comments about XLN Audio Addictive Drums:

I use AD with my Yamaha DTX400K. I got a Tama pedal and record with Reaper. The native app works the same if you don't want to use Reaper. This software takes an average drum kit and turns it into a professional drums set. It asks me to enter a track for each drum in Reaper but I just have it add it as one track since I can balance one drums volume over the other with AD if I want. I'm able to customize the drum selection and sounds fairly easily. I watched a couple youtube videos to learn that. Took about 30 to learn and then I got used to it for other modifications. The quality of my sound and recordings are top notch. I can't imagine spending over 300 on Superior Drummer versus 100 for AD on sale. AD rocks!!!

Comments about XLN Audio Addictive Drums:

Addictive drums is by far the best virtual drum plug-in out there for acoustic kits. The only thing that comes close is Session Drummer and between the 2 AD is light years ahead on sound quality. For those worried about support, who needs support when you have google? ;), The install was a bit confusing at first with a web download but otherwise all is well. I use AD with, Reaper, Sonar, and Cubase.

I have been using Addictive Drums for a couple years. Pretty good software, absolutely HORRIBLE customer service. I've tried to get a simple question answered and no one will respond. They do not have telephone support. I would NOT recommend this company or their products.

I like this product a lot. It's my first drum program, but I did my homework and am happy with my purchase. It was a hassle getting setup, but they have remedied that problem by adding a download manager. They also have a beta version for 64-bit hosts. No bongos or congas, but the acoustic drum sounds are awesome. You can even tune the cymbals!

Great software but you need some patience

      By

      from middle America

Comments about XLN Audio Addictive Drums:

Good product.....here is my beef. I bought it here at MF online. I called several hours later because I didn't have the key yet. Even though I had an order number and they had already put a hold on my bank account for the price of the software, nobody could find my order anywhere. after an hour of being on the phone, they sent me a code. MF customer service was pretty good considering that. Once I got the key, it was a nightmare to download and all of that. Basically the instructions are not clear. So Let me lay it out for ya....

      Buy it
      Get key code
      follow link to download
BEFORE you download, go to my products and register it.
      Then download
Then go to the page again and go to my computers. Add your computer
Then open the software in your host program. It should walk you through the procedure from there.

      Good luck
I would have given it a 10 but they need a better variety of cymbals and basic rhythmic instruments. But hey, it has cowbell so there is that.
This is the second time I have purchased this so I can use it on more than 2 computers. So yeah, I like it.
The first time I bought this, it was $99. So I didn't like the price jump. Also, only two licenses is silly.

About as close to real as you can get.

      By

Comments about XLN Audio Addictive Drums:

As a long time user of ezDrummer, I am blown away by this software. Compared to ezDrummer these drums sit in the mix so much better. They sound more natural, you can definitely hear the analog warmth. It would cost much, much more to purchase enough gear to record drums that sounded this good.
On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate the value of Addictive Drums a 30. Ridiculous I know, but getting this quality of drum sounds for this price is crazy.

      Excellent!!!

      By

      from Atlanta

Comments about XLN Audio Addictive Drums:

I've used it for a while and it is really a great easy to use product. If you use an eKit with them, it is so simple. It's just a matter picking the right mapping from the list for that drum kit and your rocking and roll'n. My band is working on a new demo, and my drummer after hearing the plug in said, "Man, I wish my kit sounded this good", and that's compairing it his previous demo from a professional studio. I only wish they had Z symbols as a choice in addition to the Sabians. Buy it, you won't regret it.
