Great horn for the money. Sounds half way decent, much better with a good mouthpiece. I might also add the keys are pretty silent.

Comments about Allora Paris Series Professional Alto Saxophone:

We were looking for a "step up" mid to high level instrument for our high school musician without going broke. This instrument fits the bill. He was playing a Vito now this Allora Paris Series and he says he will not go back. He plays in a local jazz band, orchestra and band. Our local music shop said it appears to be a good value given the action and the adjustments that are allowed by design. The engraving is pretty.

The bottom of the bell has a very nice stong re-enforcement to prevent dents.

As a side note. We purchased this item as a used AS IS item with a condition code of 4. This means it needed professional work before it could be played. Upon receipt we noticed the octave key was malfunctioning, due to improper assembly or re-assembly...not sure, that was easily fixed. The only other issue was one of the retainer brackets for the key covers/guards broke loose from the body of the sax. This appears to be more a quality issue from the manufacturer as the alignment of the cover to the bracket was not perfect. However easily repaired. The key movement limiters and/or protection corks could be attached better.

Comments about Allora Paris Series Professional Alto Saxophone:

I have owned Yamaha, Yanigasawa, Armstrong, and Cannonball saxophones. I have played others including P. Maurait, Selmer, and others.

This is a very nice horn, especially in this price range. The overall build quality seems very solid. The action is as fast as what my 901 was. It is slightly heavier than the horns I owned and have played (except for the cannonball.) The intonation is spot on, the tone is a little brighter than I like, but still has some warmer undertones due the heavier metal.

It does need a lot of air and will respond nicely when she gets what she needs. I am using an Otto Link 6* with a Rovner type III lig, I think a more open facing like a Link 8 would even make it sing even more.

Overall I am quite pleased with the horn, and the only thing I could gripe about is the low Bb key could be a stretch for smaller handed players.

(A note about the guy who had intonation problems, todays horns, even less expensive horns, are built well enough to stay in tune throughout the horn. It is usually an embouchure issue that causes intonation problems. Get a chromatic tuner app and buzz your mouthpiece until you get the required pitch for your horn.)

Comments about Allora Paris Series Professional Alto Saxophone:

With 20+ years experience playing saxophones and having a few in my possession (including a Selmer Paris Tenor) I highly recommend the Allora Paris Alto!! One thing that's important to me is "intonation"... I like for my instrument to be IN TUNE! I am very happy with my new Allora Paris alto with lacquer finish! I opened it "still wrapped in paper" new...using the mouthpiece that came with it I gave it a trying out, and I AM LOVING IT! The intonation sounded so good, the free blowing and quick key-work response is great! Beautiful!!!

Comments about Allora Paris Series Professional Alto Saxophone:

I have been playing for 40 years and decided to upgrade my old horn. For the money, I took a chance on this "pro" model. The horn came well packed by Musicians Friend and I can't complain about the looks of the horn or case, but the minute I played it, I was disappointed. The octave key is badly situated so you can't roll your thumb up and down. After warming up and playing for a good amount of time, there was no getting the horn in tune with itself from one octave to the next. While it has a nice tone overall, I would not rate this as a professional horn. Musicians Friend graciously took the item back for return so I can look for another replacement. I've been using a Yamaha for the last 15 years - there is no comparison.
