    Awful and Expensive

    By Mark Halberstadt

    from Denver, Colorado

Comments about e-Sax Tenor Saxophone Practice Mute System:

I wish I could rate this product better, but for the cheap construction, high price, high level of discomfort during use, and overall poor functionality, I cannot recommend this product to anyone. This hardly reduces the sound of the horn at all, I cannot use it at home in my apartment, it adversely effects the intonation of the horn, it adds a noticeable amount of weight onto the whole horn, it is completely non-ergonically designed and there is no comfortable way to use this mute either standing or sitting, and it is unbelievably expensive for a cheap thermo-formed piece of plastic with some felt glued on the inside. The E sax Whisper Mute is Terrible! Do not buy it! Or if you do, save your receipt.

    My neighbors love me again.

Comments about e-Sax Tenor Saxophone Practice Mute System:

I live in a condo and my principal reason for buying the esax was to reduce my volume enough to prevent my neighbors from hearing me. Mission accomplished. The ?electronic studio? component was a bonus. I use the input, phone and output jacks to record multiple tracks and play along. I can also plug it directly into my Korg orchestral tuner to do all of that intonation work that never endeared me to my neighbors. Best of all, the audio quality of the pickup is always excellent?outstanding even?regardless of my volume. It comes with a set of unremarkable ear phones, but put on a good set of headphones and you?ll appreciate the quality of the pickup. It took me a couple of weeks to find the best position for my horn within the esax enclosure. Playing in the lower register is the only drawback that I?ve experienced. The owner?s manual recommends that the horn be lowered within the case to increase the clearance between the bell and the wall of the esax case. That done, I still haven?t been able to satisfactorily play anything below a low ?D?.The esax is a significant investment and it?s claim that it reduces sound to a ?whisper? is?well?maybe a bit of a stretch. Now that I have the freedom to practice whenever and wherever I want in my condo?either alone or with digital accompaniment?I consider the payback well worth the price. I (and my neighbors) only wish that they made one for my soprano sax.
