Monitor your actual sound (dynamics, timbre, etc.) via the ingenious pickup system and headphones. Practice in a hotel, in your home, or even warm-up back stage during a performance. The e-Sax Mute also proves an excellent recording tool when the out lines are plugged directly into a recording device. The line in feature allows you to play along with a CD or karaoke style. Comments about E-sax Practice Mute System for Alto Saxophone II:
I would recommend this if you dont feel like going to a sound studio or simply getting in your car and taking a drive out into the country to practice. It does work, just not as well as I would have thought after reading their advertisement. But then, marketing people do like to exaggerate a bit at times.
Would I repurchase this? Maybe, maybe not... it does work, the only thing that is really a downside is the price tag.
The features are ok, it has a metronome and a built in microphone, but that is about it. The felt is absorbent so it doesnt have a lot of condensation built up on the instrument while playing. I will comment that your hands DO get warm and sweaty from the humidity in the case.
For the price, the plastic they used is ok, it gets the job done, but I would expect it to weigh less. The thing is heavy. If you plan on using this for any length of time, do yourself a favor and get an adjustable height bar stool or something to set it on while you use it. They do not make a product specific stand for this mute, at least not at the time of this writing. The clamshell style housing doesn't always line up either when you close it, so take some extra care and make sure it is all lined up before you attempt to latch it.
Best solution I have found for the Sax, and works a LOT better than simply shoving a sock in the bell The volume is not silent when the instrument is being played, and definitely not a whisper. More like the same volume as two people holding a conversation in a room at normal volumes. It does cut the volume of the instrument a lot, The only thing I really noticed is it was a bit more difficult to play the lower notes.
