Comments about Gonzalez Tenor Saxophone Reeds:
I have been a long time Rico Royal user. I experimented, but just could not find the right reed, so I always returned to Rico. I read the reviews on Gonzales reeds, and decided to try them because I had a discount coupon. I played them right out of the box (something I do with new reeds), and they seemed a litle stiff.I soaked one, in water, for a couple of hours and WOW, it was incredible. The projection I got blew away any other reed I have used. It was so easy blowing top to botom, and the sound was great. I got the #2 strength but will probably try the 2.25 next and move up in strength until I find my comfort level. The 1/4 strength increments is very convenient. I am done experimenting with reeds. I use a Lakey, 5*3 plastic mpc and a rovner lig on an Allora Paris series Pro tenor. These reeds give me the volume I need, but can be played softly also. They cost a little more but are worth it for the playing experience they provide.
