For the Coltrane Sound
The Guardala Crescent tenor saxophone mouthpiece produces a sound that is reminiscent of the John Coltrane album Crescent circa 1963. The large bore and slight baffle work well together to produce the darkest tone.
The Guardala metal tenor saxophone mouthpieces successfully and faithfully reproduce the sound and response of the some of the true legends of saxophone playing.

Comments about Guardala Crescent Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:
The Crescent is the darkest of the Guardala line and is a fantastic mouthpiece for those seeking that classic 1950s "Coltrane" sound. It is beautifully made and the rich, full, sonorous tone is wonderful. It articulates cleanly and it can honk and cut through the mix -- as well as softly caress the notes in a ballad.
In my evaluation of several metal mouthpieces, this came in 2nd place. Before purchasing, I was fully aware that this was a big piece... but surprisingly, I got breathless playing it. The sound is amazing, but I simply had to work too hard to produce it. Also, I did scratch my head a bit about the silver hardware on the Rovner ligature included with this gold mouthpiece. Oh well, a minor issue.
Despite the quality, price and popularity of this terrific mouthpiece, I felt like I was playing through a fire hose. Instead, I chose the brand new Vandoren V16 T8 Medium Chamber Metal -- a superb piece that meets my needs perfectly.
