Comments about Jody Jazz HR* Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:
This was my first replacement mouthpiece, so I can't compare it to anything but the mp that came with my Kohlert 460 tenor. The most notable difference is the wider bore on the Jody Jazz HR, which is totally smooth. I was originally going to get a metal mp, but read in forums and whatnot that hard rubber will give better performance for the value since it is easier to manufacture and hand-sand the painstaking finishing tolerances. I am very satisfied with the tone difference and the feel of the airflow. The stock mp always seemed like you were putting too much or too little air through the horn. The J.J. HR was noticeably more consistent through the lower register and transitions from high to low notes. I ordered a 7* facing which is a little larger than my stock, it requires more reed control, but gives a much better tone and made my practice time more valuable. The punch that this mp has over stock really amazed me, but overall, the tone more projected and clear. I recommend this for a first replacement, but many other sax players on the net considered this a great mp for anyone.
