Comments about Jupiter 2089 XO Tenor Saxophone:
There is a lot of good to be said about the XO. First, it's a more mellow tone as there is a copper tint which is great for dampening the brightness slightly. They're using an excellent mix and the sound is more vintage tenor sax in my opinion. You get two necks, standard brass and a copper tinted version - great for fine tuning your sound.Construction - Excellent. Everything is super 'tight', built real good. Mostly post construction with some light ribbing. Keys feel fine, no super long reach for the pinky on the pancake keys. Keys make that beautiful popping noise on delivery which suggests air-tight integrity is to the maximum (in other words, no leaks).Intonation - it's amazing how in tune the XO plays. I do a lot of playing with Minus 1 recordings and it's a snap to play along without major intonation issues. Remember, these recordings usually are processed and tuned to perfect pitch so it can be harder to play along in tune. One aside is I was amazed with the packaging of the horn. The case is incredible. I do wish the pockets were bigger for more storage but other than that, the case looks almost as expensive as the horn is. It's a soft foam on the inside with a leather covering on the outside. The sax itself is covered with a light fabric after placement. The exterior of the case is semi-rigid so watch out rounding corners. I've never seen a case with a carrying strap but this one does. There's an extra pouch for carrying 8x11 sheets of music and another one I haven't quite figured out the size of a mouthpiece.I have had a Balanced Action tenor and I do have a Yamaha 62 tenor. The Jupiter is easily on par. Better if you want to know the truth. Between tone, intonation and the construction of the horn, this is a really great sax. I am impressed. I did a review of the AS869 and note I did not purchase Jupiter equipment until reading some of the reviews here as I heard Jupiter wasn't that good. Something has changed, these are awesome horns!
