I use a Berg Larsen mouthpiece and this Jupiter sings! The horn is worth twice the value of its selling price. I had heard of the brand Jupiter before and it was considered a cheap brand. But the other reviews by people here sold me on getting the horn and no remorse folks. This horn does have a beautiful robust sound. In fact, all the positives people write here are true. I'm a skeptic by nature so I was just as surprised by the results. And yes, I do have a Yamaha 62 but I just sold it in favor of keeping the Jupiter. As for keeping it clean, yes, get a polishing cloth. I'm used to gold lacquer and I didn't usually had to wipe prints off. With the Jupiter it's hard to not want to keep that original shine. Tone and intonation is great and having had a Mark 6 alto I will also concur the Jupiter 869SG does replicate the sound of Mark 6. I would easily recommend the Jupiter 869SG to any sax player.

I am in 8th Grade and I use a standard mouthpeice and this baby Sings! My friend had a mark VI and a selmer C** mouthpeice and at the highschool placement audtions the judges hated to say a Jupiter outplayed a Selmer but it was true! With a cringe on their faces they said "dude that jupiter sings what mouthpeice are you using?" and I said "standard" and they looked at me like I was crazy!!

This is an AMAZING saxophone! I have owned one for about a year now, and I absolutely love it. The sound quality is amazing, the look and feel are the best. It is perfect for beginners or professional players. I would high ly recommend this for anyone who is looking to buy a new saxophone.

My daughter was sent to a tutor because she was so far ahead in her alto sax book the teacher thought she was too bored. The tutor we hired had a Master's in Saxophone Performance and had just finished college that summer. He had never played a Jupiter, but had been steered away by his professors. He was amazed at the sound a 5th grader could get out of a Jupiter. He finally tried his own mouthpiece on it and fell in love. The great SOUND WAS (in part) THE HORN!! He gave us a free session because he'd spent 15 minutes of that one playing some awesome music. We were all impressed. Now, two years later, no problems from the horn. However, buy a better, more open mouthpiece.

I was a little hesitant to get this horn because the price seemed too good to be true. I went ahead and got the horn, and I love it. I love the tone quality, key action, silver finish, and overall playability. I have an acquaintance who owns a Selmer Reference 54, and I would put this horn up against it any day. I can't say enough positive things about it. I have read some complaints on keeping it clean. It really isn't as bad as some people are making it sound. Being silver, it does have a tendency to show the fingerprints and smudges. I have read some people use a polishing cloth and wipe down after every use. The prints don't bother me that much, I just wipe it down every couple of weeks or so.The only negatives I can say are the mouthpiece isn't good and you might as well buy a decent mouthpiece when you get the horn (I use a Meyer 5 and it works great). The other thing is you have to put up with people dissing the Jupiter brand a lot (their past saxophones were less than stellar). Completely worth it.I love this horn and wouldn't trade it for the world (well..... maybe a Mark VI ;)

I've been playing for 5 years now, go to an art school, and play in a professional big band. I've recorded 2 CD's so far, and used an artist alto on both. It truly is an incredible horn. I was surprised by the color of the tone this horn can get. Playing it with a Meyey 6, really opens up the horn, giving it a very nice bright sound. The tension in the keys is a bit hard at first, but it losens up and will not fail you. I've owned the horn for 2.5 years, and the only trouble i've had is the cork falling off the palm D key, then again, I've played it so much the lacquer's worn off of that key, obviously a wear issue, not craftmanship. I would seriously reccomend this horn to anyone. Byhaps, if they don't like the shiny spoon shine of the sax, you can always darken the horn a bit, giving it a nice vintage super sonic look. Great horn for the money (not degrading it in anyway).
Comments about Jupiter 869SG Artist Alto Saxophone:
OUTSTANDING horn. VERY versitile. I have always thought of jupiter as the crap student model horn. I am a HS jazz teacher and I had my students on two 1995 Yamaha 62 altos and two 1995 Yamaha 62 tenors which are yamaha's pro-model horns. Those horns just did not play in tune. I was looking at replacing them with the new year's model 62 or looking at other brands. Being a sax player myself it was important to me that I play on the horn before I buy a line of them for my band. I played on several $3000 horns including Selmer, Unisen, and Yanigasawa. All of them played well but I was shocked at the tone color, character, and especially the intonation that the Jupiter got with the sterling neck. PLus the silver plate is nice. But at 1/3 the $ It was no contest. I bought 4 horns (2 Altos 2 tenors) for my school and one for myself! Play one. You wont be disappointed! I did give it two 9s in the ratings because Id like to see a high G key, and the silver finish is a bit delicate, prone to scratches and dents, but then what horn isn't
Comments about Jupiter 869SG Artist Alto Saxophone:
I was very surprised when i picked this thing up after about 3 selmers and a keilwerth which were all highly praised. It has a nice, big, bright sound and blew all the selmer (that i played) out of the water. My band director was surprised when i walked in with this thing because he usually looks down on the brand. The salesman said it is a love or hate relationship with Jupiter but i can't imagine hating this gorgeous instrument. It is really a piece of art to behold on the visual side and it is definitely affordable.
