      Excellent horn for rock/funk

Comments about Keilwerth SX90R Nickel Silver Alto Saxophone:

If you play popular music, you cannot go wrong with this horn and with the money you save over a Selmer, find one of the tenors and buy that too.
I've been quite curious about this horn for some time. My tenor is the Keilwerth equivalent and it's capable of tremendous power with no eccentricities. I've heard people say that this alto sounds like a tenor. I don't share that opinion though, perhaps, with the right sort of mouthpiece, that could be possible. What I found with the alto is, a the risk of sounding redundant, immense power without any unpleasant peculiarities. It's extremely bright, piercing even, just what I want to keep up and surpass electronic instruments but if you intend to use it for legit playing, this isn't your horn. I've only had it for a short while and haven't noticed any intonation issues that are any worse than any other high quality sax. This is a hot blazing horn capable of as much volume as you need - my ears ring after practicing and that doesn't happen after a night of gigging. With a more subdued mouthpiece it could work well for jazz too. A much better deal than the top shelf Selmers with ergonomics at least as good. One word of caution, it's a big bell horn and you need to factor that in if you want an aftermarket case. The Keilwerth case is practically weightless so I don't know why I even bothered. This model has been discontinued so if you see one don't hesitate to pick up one of the last of these.
This horn played perfectly right out of the case which is what I would expect of a Keilwerth sold by a reputable vendor - top quality throughout.
Half the price of a Reference horn, need I say more?
