Comments about Otto Link Metal Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:
This is my first "Professional" mouthpiece, and it is amazing! It is more suited for jazz band and marching band mainly because it tends to be louder than mouthpieces made of hard rubber or plastic (especially with a fibracell synthetic reed. When I use a normal cane reed, the mouthpiece works very well for concert band). Overall, I find that this mouthpiece is very versatile, you just need to play with it!
*If you are going to get another ligature for this mouthpiece, I suggest getting a smaller-than-normal one, or get something that fits a clarinet mouthpiece. I had to get a clarinet sized olegature because of this mouthpiece's odd shape and size.*
Comments about Otto Link Metal Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:
Being an alto sax soloist, I needed a metal mouthpiece that is bright and that can help me "cut through" the mix.in a soloist position, you need to stand out, not blend in. This does well standing out, and with a heavier gauge reed, it can be used to blend in, but your chops have to be prepared.I use this otto link in size 5 standard, not the star. I use this with standard rico 2's since I wear out reeds so easily, I wear down a few in a practice session. reeds got expensive so I got a synthetic reed, "Bari" brand. Has a nice raspy bright tone, which I like, gives me more expression. With standard reeds this sounds well, but I now prefer the synthetic reed since I save cash and does wonders lasting long. this mouthpiece is GREAT, works well with synthetic or standard cane reed. however, if you're using a heavy gauge size 5 like I used to, be prepared to have your lips torn and for some reason this mouthpiece hates heavy gauge reeds, because it squeaks on heavy gauges. This one likes softer reeds, but if you wanna save money, go try a synthetic. Don't bash synthetic reeds unless you tried it. it just might be useful in saving money. I hate it when I spend more on reeds than how much the gig pays me to play.
