Comments about Pearl Flutes Calore Series Headjoints:
You'll enjoy this product. And if you're not familiar with Pearl's flutes and headjoints, this would surely be a great introduction.
I ordered the Calore in "pristine silver" (.970), .40mm for my Pearl Elegante.
Out of the box it was an almost perfect fit, which of course it should be.
The sound of this headjoint is really incredible. It's "fast", meaning that what you articulate comes through, rather than being muddled. The 3rd register is very easy and more importantly, even beyond Bb it sounds like a flute rather than a bad science experiment. (We've all been there, flutists!)
One word of caution: prisine silver is more malleable (softer) than sterling. It's easier to get your tenon "out of round" by careless insertion or even rough handling; far easier than a standard silver headjoint.
Having said that, I can definitely tell a difference in the "color" of the sound compared to my Pearl sterling headjoints. It's a very "live" sound, and the headjoint is very responsive to multiphonic, flutter and other non-traditional techniques.
The pricing (as of 12-2011) for either pristine or sterling was the same. I'd go for the pristine.
Pearl really needs to improve the packaging of their headjoints. Something more rigid. This headjoint came shipped in a plastic bag, wrapped with a cotton cloth, packed in a cardboard box.Particularly with thin-wall or softer metals, this could be problematic if the item encountered rough handling.
They could make "forever" containers from PVC pipe material for dirt cheap.
For the money this is a high-quality, outstanding headjoint.
