I find that the Rico Jazz is very consistent in sound and quality. I have tried Vandoren Java filed and although they are great quality I have had more than one that comes out of the package sounding very dead and flat. That is the opinion of this end user...as always your results may vary depending on your preference.

I accidentally came across this line of reeds a couple of years ago. I had not considered a Rico brand reed since my sophomore year in high school (40 years ago), but gave these a try on a trusted recommendation. I now use only these reeds on all my saxes -- bari, tenor and alto. They are consistent in strength and quality, and other players to whom I have given them consider them to be their "special reeds" for concert performances. I have never had one that didn't play right out of the box.

I absolutly would reccomend these reeds to any player they play better and sound better than the more expensive vandoren reeds. And their quality is much more consistant in a pack. A+++++
