My wife and I purchased the C* for my 15 y/o to go with his new Yamaha Z from MF and he absoluely loves it and believes it gives his sax a great tone. He insists that his Z has a better tone with the C* than his friend's Z who uses a different mouthpiece. We ordered a couple of mouthpieces from MF so he could see which one he liked. MF has a good return policy and charges $5 to sterilize the returns. He thought the C* was better than the Beechler although he liked the Beechler. The C* has an unusual shape which he thinks helps him generate better tones and reach the more extreme ends of the scale. If you are ready to invest in a better quality sax like the Z (we think of it as investing in my son) then we highly recommend you try this better quality mouthpiece. We also purchase the Vandoren Optimum ligature to go with it which is also excellent.

After my first two years of playing my new conductor recommended to me a Selmer S80 C* mouthpiece. In his words I also say "A new mouthpiece can make more difference then a new saxophone." The C*/C1 mouthpiece offers a step up in mouthpieces with a wider curve in the top of the mouthpiece. It requires a tighter embouchure and develops a learning students tone nicely. I will never use another kind of mouthpiece until I move up to a professional size. P.S. Get the C* if you're a student and need a new and better mouthpiece. Almost any other one will be too difficult to play or not make a big difference in tone.

I have been playing with this mouthpiece for 8 years and I have loved it for all 8. It is very easy to controll the sound with this mouthpiece and it gives a deep, rich quality sound from the insterment itself. Overall I am very pleased with this mouth piece and I plan to use it for many more years.
