I enjoy playing this horn. This is a nice horn but for th price you could get more from a Selmer AS300. Here are some problems but remember these are the only problems. The laqour has began to rub of in areas. I have had high pad stickage, more than I should have. I also have problems with stuff getting stuck. Yes, I oil my joints. The choice is yours but as i said you might want to shop around.

    It's okay

    By terrence77477

Comments about Yamaha YAS-23 Standard Alto Sax:

I think this horn is good for middle school students or beginners. One plus I give it is that it has held up from 7th grade to freshman in college. Its not made for the altissimo range. Its ok the corpstyle marching I did in highschool, but it didnt last a few months doing showstyle.

    Classic

    By Mike-4BJZ_

Comments about Yamaha YAS-23 Standard Alto Sax:

I bought an old one years ago for $750, and it's the only only sax I want to play. It's held up over the years with minimal care and maintenance, and the tone is godly. Mixed with Rico Plasticovers, you can't go wrong!

    Awesome

    By Crazysaxguy

Comments about Yamaha YAS-23 Standard Alto Sax:

I have had this saxophone since 6th grade and am now entering my senior year. This instrument has served me well and has held up to all playing conditions. Compared to most other student saxes I've played, this one blows them all away. This is a great instrument overall and will last you a long time if it is not abused.

    Great first sax

    By Tony-iHXoM

    from Indiana

Comments about Yamaha YAS-23 Standard Alto Sax:

I have been playing saxophone for almost ten years, and the Yamaha YAS-23 has been my main instrument for most of that time. It has held up great over the years with minimum maintenance. If you are like me and in college, you will want a intermediate/professional grade sax, one with an F# key, etc.

    What was I thinking

    By Nick-J30ri

Comments about Yamaha YAS-23 Standard Alto Sax:

This Saxophone is not very good. It does not have good action the keys don't feel tight and it dosent have good projection. In my opinion a jupiter horns is better than this one

    Very great beginner saxophone

    By YAS-23

    from Edmonton,AB,CA

Comments about Yamaha YAS-23 Standard Alto Sax:

I've been playing mine for nearly 3 years now. The only problems i have with it is that the low notes are hard to play and that it corrodes fairly easily. I love the adjustable thumb rest. I know this is a cheap saxophone compared to others but it is a fantastic beginner sax. The price was also very reasonable.

    A lovely sax

    By Erin (1st Alto)

    from Decatur, TN

Comments about Yamaha YAS-23 Standard Alto Sax:

The YAS-23 is the only alto that I own, though I've played on the school ones multiple times. The YAS-23 has been reliable, though the pads wear easily. The bar on the right of the bell, that serves as a stop for those keys out there, came loose and had to be welded back on.

    Great for Beginners

    By Andrew T.

    from Mankato, MN

Comments about Yamaha YAS-23 Standard Alto Sax:

I currently own this saxophone, and I have used it for just over four years. It has great quality, but after about four years, an upgrade is needed from this saxophone, as I am about to do. I will probably buy a Yamaha sax again, as my upgrade.
