Yamaha YCL-CSG Series Professional Bb Clarinet   (Used)

Product #471270
Yamaha

Designed to offer a warmer, more inviting sound, the Yamaha CSG Bb clarinet possesses a German style bore with French style keys. The player will find with the Yamaha CSG Custom clarinet whose response is immediate yet covered and lush. This clarinet blends the best of both worlds. Features of the Yamaha G Series clarinet include hand selected grenadilla wood body with sculpted key work. The lack of a bell ring also allows for a more resonate chalumeau. Comes with contoured case and cover, Yamaha Custom mouthpiece and care products.

Hamilton plating, featured on the CSG Bb clarinet, is an alloy of gold and nickel. It is extremely resistant to wear and discoloration, and delivers a powerful tone with excellent projection. On the CSGH instruments, the Hamilton Plating is actually not only on the keys, but on the posts as well. In artist testing, it was shown to be a dramatic difference between instruments that had just Hamilton plated keys and Hamilton plated keys and posts

Features:

I recently purchased a Yamaha YCL-CSG Bb German bore clarinet. Being a lond-time Buffet R-13 player, I was not really expecting much. I played the instrument recently at the NAMM Show in Anaheim, and was very impressed. Testing an instrument at the NAMM is not a fair trial, so I ordered one. After having performed two concerts and several rehearsals on the instrument, my feeling is that this in one enjoyable clarinet. I adapted to it immediately and find the intonation spot-on with the longer barrel. The sound is full, dark, with great carrying power. The response throughout the registers is balance, making large interval jumps easy. I don't have to do any favoring of notes, something one does on an R-13. My orchestral colleagues immediately noticed an improvement in my sound. Best of all, this clarinet is really effortless to play. It doesn't tire me out, and carries well in the hall.

Besides the great playing, this instrument is beautifully constructed, with lovely unstained Grenadilla and expert keywork. My only complaint is a wish for an adjustable thumb rest and, maybe, an off-set register key, like on the German clarinets. I think the MK II model of this clarinet has that, but i really didn't need the E-F resonance key.

I just ordered an A clarinet of this model. Any serious clarinetist should give this instrument a try before you buy any other clarinet. With two barrels and a nice French-style Pouchette case and cover, it's a veritable bargain!

I had the oportunity to preview this instrument in its silver keyed sibling and this one does not dissappoint.  The action and playability of this clarinet is excellent and very responsive.   It feels very well balanced. Intonation is rich, warm and full in all registers.  Consistant tone quality make this an exceelent horn to play and makes me want to keep playing it.  I cannot overstate the quality of this piece enough.  For me to play, practice and grow as a musician, this clarinet fits the bill. I recommend strongly that any player looking for a professional quality instrument, give this one a serious go before buying anything.   This clarinet is going to be a real threat to traditional instruments that cost higher or even twice the price. Bravo Yamaha, a fine piece.
