I got this for my son after much research. Saxes seem to come in three categhories -student, intermediate and professional. The competing sax at this price point was the Yamaha YAS 62 II. Yamaha calls their instrument intermediate. The Yanagisawa is the cheapest of their line(part of Conn-Selmer) but they are all pro instruments. Not that labels really mean anything. If you go on youtube you can find store owners (who could play anything they want) extolling the virtues of the Yanagisawa as well as personally owning it. Very glad I went with this sax. No regrets. Sounds beautiful and good intonation through the registers.

i have been playing sax for a while now, and i feel this sax is easily compariable with any other saxophone you can find, this includes selmer. i would recommend this sax to anyone from beginner to advanced. before i purchased this horn, i was playing a bundy 2. the bundy saxophone pales in comparision to the yanagisawa and the difference in the sound quality is almost uncomparable. overall, this is a great sax.
