The Yanagisawa SC-991 curved soprano is a beautifully designed and finely crafted saxophone. Its increased neck angle gives it richer tone and makes it more capable of aggressive playing, while many little refinements combine to make it especially fast, smooth, and articulate.
Key of Bb. Range from low Bb to high F#, all brass construction with lacquer finish and hand engraving, white shell lined indented pearl buttons, adjustable thumb rest mounted with only four small contact points to minimize effect on the resonance, pointed pivot screws, waterproof leather pads with metal resonators, tapered steel needle springs, and tri-point balanced body-bell brace.

I'm a hobby player and decided to upgrade from the SC 900 model to the SC 991 as a result of the improvement to the keys. My SC 900 was purchased 15 yrs ago new and was excellent. The key improvements are great. Yanagisawa makes a wonderful curved soprano. My only complaint was I ordered new and the first horn that came from MF was damaged and had bent keys and the box showed it was shipped to someone else. Due to the bent keys the horn could not play. Customer service needed some cajoling to send a replacement as I hand to send photos of the damage, not shipment related. Finally, I got a replacement that was brand new with no defects and plays great. The neck on the SC 991 has a more distinct curve, making the horn more comfortable to play. Also the key configuration from the SC 900 to the SC 991 has changed and mimics an alto.Overall the horn is a top notch instrument, well made and sounds great with my Morgan rubber moutpiece.

This horn has remarkably consistant intonation and fine ergonomics. The construction is as flawless as you can find. This is a lifetime instrument. Upper register is no problem for me with this horn. Mouthpiece that comes with it is fine. I use Vandoren Blue Box #3 reeds with it.
