This is a very easy playing guitar. I composed a new song in just a few minutes while playing this great guitar. Beginner or pro, you can't go wrong with this guitar! Great, great guitar!
This is a great value quality guitar. Beautiful craftsmanship. I originally wanted the Old violin sunburst, but it was out of stock,so I ordered the Dark red burst. It is so beautiful! I love it! I play it unplugged 99% of the time. It has a great sound unplugged for a thin-line, it sounds okay plugged in. It has a nice balance of the bass and treble strings. I would change the strings.
Again, this guitar is a great value for the price. Buy this guitar! I tried this guitar among another thin-line acoustic and a full bodied A/E at a local store and the competitor's thin-line didn't sound good at all- it was very tinny. The full bodied one which costs more didn't sound nearly as good as the apx500.

Nice sounding guitar, better than I'd expect from this price range. The frets however need to be filed, the second fret was too low and cauzed buzzing. After fixing that and changing strings, the guitar was buzzing from inside. All the braces inside were not glued properly, too 5 hours of work to get this working, but now I love it. I tried to take it back but all 12 APX500's in stock were just as bad and as it was a birthday present from my wife I decided to have it fixed.

Yamaha APX500 - A players guitar

By Michael Ciulla

from Westerville, Ohio

Comments about Yamaha APX500 Thinline Acoustic-Electric Cutaway:

I was blown away by the action of this guitar. It is setup and ready to go! Normally when I get a new guitar, I take it to a shop to get the action setup but there was no need. The sound is a little on the treble side but it's to be expected from a thin body guitar. Plug in, tweak the EQ and it sounds rich and full. I've yet to change the factory strings but think that will simply add the sound quality. The on board tuner is extremely convenient. Not only would I recommend this guitar, but I HAVE recommended this guitar to those looking for a quality player that lacks a high price tag. Way to go Yamaha!!!!

Excellent Value!

By Timothy McMillan

Comments about Yamaha APX500 Thinline Acoustic-Electric Cutaway:

Okay, I'll repeat myself. This is a great guitar at an incredible value! I would definitely suggest this to anyone over many guitars that are way more expensive.
I bought my APX500 a couple of years ago, and have found it to rival much more expensive guitars. I mostly play it unplugged, but sometimes plugged. The sound is fabulous. I played this along with several other thin body acoustic-electrics at a local store, and this one had a MUCH fuller sound than the others. It definitely blew away any of the Ovation models. The electronics are very good, and include a three band equalizer, and my fave feature, an onboard tuner. Definitely the best overall acoustic I've owned. Nice feel to the fingerboard.

Low-cost, decent acoustic guitar

By MichaelU

from Utah

Comments about Yamaha APX500 Thinline Acoustic-Electric Cutaway:

A couple of years ago, I was in Guitar Center with the intention of buying an Ovation. I'd owned numerous Ovations in the past, and absolutely loved every one of them. However, this time around, none of them 'felt' as nice as I'd remembered. While checking out some other acoustics on the wall, I picked up a Yamaha APX500 and simply fell in love! Not that it was the greatest acoustic guitar I'd ever held, by a long shot, but the neck, action, and unamplified tone were all superb. What made it really 'great' was that it was on sale. I snapped it up, and was very happy with it.A year and a half ago, I had to part company with it. I was going to replace it with another acoustic, but hemmed & hawed. Then just a few months later, I saw another one, also on sale, and grabbed it.I have to say however, that while it is still a decent guitar, I'm not quite as crazy about it as I had been. The tone feels much thinner and shallower to me now; it lacks much punch.Still, for the price, it's a very nice instrument, particularly with the onboard amp, which does produce a nice sound.

Sounds Even Better After You Sit On It

By Anonymous

Comments about Yamaha APX500 Thinline Acoustic-Electric Cutaway:

I got this guitar for my fourteenth birthday and have played it everyday since. I loved everything about this guitar, and still do. After a brief "squabble" with my mom I was slightly stunned and sat on it, breaking every single brace. I was understandably heartbroken. After I fixed it, the guitar actually felt better in my hands and sounded better. It is a top of the line product and best value for an acoustic. I recommend this to every friend of mine who's looking for an eletric-acoustic.

Wonderful!

Comments about Yamaha APX500 Thinline Acoustic-Electric Cutaway:

I bought myself this guitar and it is amazing! I use it practically every day and the sound is great. The only trouble I had was about a year after I bought it the battery cartridge started disconnecting very slightly. However, it was an easy fix and it was just because of a faulty contact. Anyway, even with its minor problems, this guitar is amazing!

Better than expected

Comments about Yamaha APX500 Thinline Acoustic-Electric Cutaway:

Well I just got this for Christmas today and when I realized it was a laminated top I gotta admit, I was a bit dissapointed. I was affraid it would be quieter and have less tone than a solid top, but surprisingly, it doesn't have any of those problems. It sounds amazing and its as loud as a thinline should be (which is pretty fair). I was honestly blown away by how good it sounds. I've never heard a laminate top sound this good and I've played taylors, Gisbon J200's, arch tops and all sorts of high end acoustics but this guitar hangs with them both tonally and cosmetically. But as for playability, it kina beats them with its slim but not flat neck and cutaway. Its an amazingly playable guitar with thousands of dollars worth of tone packed into only $300 of guitar. I would highly reccomend it over many solid tops of its price range and some even higher.

Totally Impressed

By donnarob

Comments about Yamaha APX500 Thinline Acoustic-Electric Cutaway:

Excellent quality and play-ability for a low priced instrument. I was shocked. I've had a lot of guitars over the years, and have played professionally in bands for over 30 years and this guitar has excellent action, a nice smooth fret job and frankly I was shocked at the quality for the price.
