Comments about Ahead Lars Ulrich Signature Drumsticks:

I was very surprised at how these sticks felt when I played them. I could play soft, I could play harder with better rebound action. After reading the material and instructions and looking at their website I was very impressed. I didn't realize that the marks in my cymbals were also sometimes traces of the wooden stick material that become beaten into the cymbal's finish, but that's why we can clean them if need be. Though this is logical of course, the Ahead sticks don't leave anything in my high end cymbal finish. So even if the Lars stick is too heavy, their are 7A, 5A 5B and other sizes. I am so impressed with the engineering, Ahead has become my main stick after years of wood shape searching and switching from Maple to Oak...etc. Now I still have a ton of wood sticks and would not rule out wood, I am just so satisfied with the balance and feel of these I cannot stop using them as according to Ahead , they will also prevent having more stress , injury as well. I am older, these feel better! Working better So.. I gotta go where I gotta go ! I am going to purchase also, the three sizes mentioned above as I do other gigs with different styles. Their not cheap in the wallet, but I am going to buy a pair each month until I build an Army of these. The only thing I can say that is negative is, I used to flip my stick around a lot with wood as I would use either traditional or match, and often I would strike the tom using the stick's Butt end. But... these Ahead sticks take the need for that away if I just hit it, as a wooden stick's butt end has a harder tone and sound than the tip end in most wooden sticks. Ahead also states "Do not hit your kit and cymbals with the handle end, it can be damaging to your equipment. But with these things, I don't need to! Soft rim shots on the snare works well too! Musicians Friend also has the best price I could find as well. I do not work for Ahead

Comments about Ahead Lars Ulrich Signature Drumsticks:

I was truly shocked. I bought a set of these just to try. I was blown away after using wooden sticks all my life as I criticized these sticks with attitude, after all , their not even wood right? Well... first of all the sticks are a little heavy. What happened with this really surprised me cause I found myself really becoming balanced out compared to my wooden sticks. When I do a blast beat or really take to my two bass drums, the sticks weight actually cause my whole body from upper torso to my feet to be sort of balanced with each other, is the best way I can describe it. It allows me to relax more and my feet and lower body seem to be supported by the weight of these sticks. So you can also simply get a heavier wooden stick too right? Go for it. I too have heavier wooden sticks. I have hundreds of sticks! I've never felt what I am feeling here. When I go rolling across my toms from left to right and then back I have such support. I think it's the weight overall of this stick. The length and taper + my individual weight and strength level just seems to work real well for me. I've been a wood man all my life! I never thought I would take to these this way. So I ordered 5 pair with some Ahead Grip tape too. They are a bit too expensive, so I will order one at a time after a while. I don't care what they say either... You could play Jazz on these. Just play the room and go lighter on the touch. That's important for a drummer. My teacher always tells me , You gotta play the room. These sticks?.... Man I am truly shocked, surprised. I love the feel from head to toe with these. Wait a minuet... "From Ahead to toe"!

Bought a couple pairs of the Ahead sticks to have on hand in case of emergency. The feel of the grip/feel is just not a smooth, solid feel. It's like playing with a pipe

Comments about Ahead Lars Ulrich Signature Drumsticks:

I purchased a couple of pairs of these to work with and try. I like them. I still like wood too. I must say I have never broke a stick. of course I use Tommy Aldridge sticks by promark and Thommas Lang's Vic Firth sticks. I have used lighter sticks and I still have never broken one. Am I a woose for that? Or do I just hit my kit properly? If you hit your cymbal on the cymbal edges because your cymbals are high and not tilted in enough with these sticks you will crack them very soon. If you turn the stick around and use the handle end of these being aluminum you will damage rims and cymbals. I noticed that Lars claimed that he would break a lot of sticks until he used these. Mick Fleetwood, Thommy Clufetose, Tommy Lee and some others use these sticks. They do have a slightly different tone and sound. They feel different by weight and diameter. They are expensive. I still have sticks that I have played with 10 years ago. I can't picture one of these breaking. Even wooden sticks can damage cymbals if your striking the edge as such. After working out with these Metal Ahead-jobs, Tommy Aldridge's 2S Promark seemed lighter and softer on tone and feel. Try a pair and see how they work for you.
