My first experience with "American Drum" Timp/Tom mallets was great. I had a pair of the clear, nylon head mallets, but after a good beating, the nylon head broke in half. I was just going to buy a pair of good old Vic Firths when I decided to give American Drum another chance; so I bought a pair of RD7 Radials, and I'm glad. I love my Pinstripes, and the last thing I liked to see on them was a couple of dents and scuff marks, which I got all the time when using other nylon head mallets. The rubber used on the RD7's makes it nearly impossible to leave any scruff marks or dents on the heads, and they produce a nice, beefy tone. They have a nice weight and feel too, and the bounce is incredible. I highly recommend these mallets. The only problem is the slippery grips that American Drum puts on their mallets. I replaced them with some Vic Firth non-slip grips, and they are a dream. So go ahead and buy.
