OVERVIEW

A new go-to gadget for your toolkit.

Introduced in 2008, the original GrooveTech Multi-Tool was an instant hit with guitar and bass players alike. Never before had a multi-tool provided such functionality or made use of pro-grade components. In spite of market acceptance, CruzTOOLS designers envisioned improvements and spent over two years developing a second-generation tool that boasts significant advances.

Like the original tool, both inch and metric hex wrenches are provided with ball-ends for truss rod sizes. Tool components use professional S2 steel with an attractive polished-chrome finish. Second-generation improvements include 5/16" socket for Gibson and similar truss rod units, addition of 5 mm and 1/16" hex wrenches, and a precision ruler with inch and metric scales. Finally, a one-piece body design allows smooth and easy rotation of components.

FEATURES
  • 14 tools in one compact fold-up unit (four metric hex keys, three fractional hex keys, two Phillips screwdrivers, one 2.5 mm slotted screwdriver, one ruler for setting action)
  • Inch and metric sizes for all makes and models of guitars and bass
  • Truss rod size hex wrenches are ball end for easy access
  • Gibson truss rod socket, 5mm and 1/16" hex wrenches, precision ruler
  • Single-piece body for smooth component rotation
  • Professional quality
  • Weight: 5.5 oz.

Comments about CruzTOOLS Groovetech Guitar/Bass Multi-Tool - Second Generation:

Bought this for my tool kit so I wouldn't have to keep a handful of tools to maintain or repair my various guitars and basses.I needed to loosen the two torx screws slightly so I could move the small saddle wrench. Other than that this is a nice tool which covers many guitars. It's a good size for my moderately sized hands and appears to be made of quality materials. It's design is attractive and allows access to all the tools. The paint is flawless and the chrome plated tools show no defects. The only downside is the same as with all of these types of tools: They are sometimes clumsy to use as the handle assembly and/or tool tends to swivel when being used. A torx driver can be used to lock everything together, but that can get to be a pain while doing a setup, hence the 4.5 overall score. This is a good tool and works well with my variety of axes. No more losing a tiny saddle wrench!

Comments about CruzTOOLS Groovetech Guitar/Bass Multi-Tool - Second Generation:

No, it's not perfect. I'd like to see a folding wire cutter on it for trimming strings when replacing strings, but that's neither here nor there. For what it can do, it does it well, all at a price that's more than reasonable. It won't replace dedicated tools entirely for those of us that do a lot of work on guitars and basses, but for the hobbyist that owns only one or two guitars, it should be all they ever need. My personal collection is six electrics and two acoustics, and one bass, so my personal collection gives it a workout from time to time. So far, it's been great. When I work on client's instruments, it's often all I need to have handy on site.
This tool is handy for many things. No, it's not always as good as a dedicated tool, no folding tool could be. It will do many things in repairing and setting up almost any guitar or bass, and do it well enough. It's small, easy to carry, and ready at a moment's notice. The tool ends are of high quality steel, and the suround is heavy aluminum. It shouldn't rust or wear out for a very long time. I've used it to set actions, straighten necks by using the truss rod, and adjust the bridges. Works fine, and beats having to tote a tool box around. I did run across one off brand of tremolo saddle it would not adjust, but for the most part, it's ready for anything.
High grade stainless steel for the tool ends, and a heavy gauge aluminum body mean it's of great quality and should last nearly forever. Maybe you can damage it, but you'll have to be doing something it wasn't meant to do.
When you consider the number of tools it allows you to do without, it's more than worth the reasonable price. I've spent more than that for a single tool that wasn't of this quality. I priced the same tool at other sites, Musican's Friend has the best price, even better when you consider they toss in the shipping, which the other sites don't.

I have many different guitars from standard makes to one of a kind custom builds and this tool fits them all. Just wish there was a larger flat head for Gibson and Epiphone saddle bolt adjustments.

Comments about CruzTOOLS Groovetech Guitar/Bass Multi-Tool - Second Generation:

This is a good tool but it is cranked in there really tight. Putting the saddle wrench back in took almost enough force as it would take to bend it. I had to get an torx wrench and threadlock in order to loosen it up and reset the tension. Also, it could stand to have some sort of loop to attach to a keychain or have some sort of pouch with belt loop. You do not want this rattling around loose in a case.

Very good quality tool. All the common sizes in one tool. It's a little smaller than the pictures indicate, but it fits in a guitar case with plenty of room to spare.

One issue I have is there isn't an allen key the size I need to intonate my Ibanez ZR Bridge, but it is no big deal. Good build quality, works smoothly. Durable. Small and nifty to carry in any gig bag or pocket. Great tool for setting up your guitar or bass.
