Brilliant tone and extended life!

Gauges - .028 .032 .036 .028 .035 .044.

D'Addario EXP45C Coated Classical Guitar Strings provide longer life and increased durability coupled with the brightness, the clarity and sensitivity you've come to expect from D'Addario strings. Here is how they work: An ultrafine layer of EXP coating is bonded to the phosphor bronze wrap wire which is then wound onto the hex-shaped core wire. The result is a built-in barrier against the corrosion and wear that can quickly sap the life out of your strings and your sound. And since the EXP coating is cross-linked to the wrap wire prior to winding, the strings sound fresh and bright. New-string tone lasts 3 to 4 times longer than traditional guitar strings.

D'Addario is the world's largest manufacturer of strings for musical instruments. Many top guitarists won't play any other brand. Regardless of your playing style, D'Addario has a set that's right for you.

Total tone and tension failure

Comments about D'Addario EXP45 Coated Nylon Guitar Strings Normal Tension:

I bought one pack of "D'Addario EXP45 Coated Nylon Guitar Strings Normal Tension" some months ago at a store and started trying to put them on my classical guitar four days ago. This didn't go well -- they required much greater than normal tension and wouldn't hold a tune. Since this is sometimes the case initially with classical strings, I set the guitar aside over the weekend to let the strings stretch slowly. Today, I tried to tune the strings and got the same problem -- failure to hold a tune (particularly in the B and high E strings), and alarmingly high tension. When I noticed that the top of my guitar was starting to deform under the tension -- and the nylon strings still weren't up to pitch! -- I gave up and ditched these strings. I don't understand the problem, unless perhaps it's that they packaged high-tension strings in the normal-tension box. I have never had a problem with strings before, from any maker, and have had good experiences with D'Addario's Pro Arte classical line, but wow, these strings were simply unplayable. I assume there was a screwup at the factory. Very strange. I'm still perfectly willing to order D'Addario Pro Arte strings, however.

Coating Improvement

Comments about D'Addario EXP45 Coated Nylon Guitar Strings Normal Tension:

I use four classical/nylon strung guitars for everyday gigging, 3 Yari's and a Godin. I have experimented with using EXP Normal Tension strings with good results. The wound strings are a little brighter initially, and they don't loose much of their brightness throughout string life. I am able to keep them on the guitars longer because of this, but like other uncoated strings, the wounds will pit or the string will loose resonance properties eventually; this is not any different than with conventional strings. The EXP's sound different than regular strings, so some equ work is needed to find a balance between the trebles and the wound strings. Once I dial that in, I don't have to do much adjustment until its apparent they need to be replaced.

Great durability, solid tone

By Pringles

from Berkeley, CA

Comments about D'Addario EXP45 Coated Nylon Guitar Strings Normal Tension:

As previous reviewers mentioned, these strings do not have the highest quality tone. Thus, they are more "practice strings" than performance strings. However, they do last much longer than average classical strings, and thus are a better value than any other classical guitar strings I have used. They are relatively high tension for "normal tension" strings. However, the D string is lower tension in order to prevent decay.

Comments about D'Addario EXP45 Coated Nylon Guitar Strings Normal Tension:

Over the years I have spent hundreds of $$$ experimenting with guitar strings.
I was always skeptical of coated strings but I decided to try these and boy was I surprised.
These nylon strings have such a great tone balance and volume projection.
The bass strings have the coating but they do not sound flat at all - as a matter of fact they are
bright, very responsive, soft to the touch and percussive.

They settled in very quickly too.

Time will tell how they will hold out but I am very happy with them so far.

Comments about D'Addario EXP45 Coated Nylon Guitar Strings Normal Tension:

The problem with classical guitar strings is that there are so many quality brands to choose from. Hannabach, La Bella, Savarez, D'Addario, etc. Reviewers don't help because it's always the same, "you'll have to decice what's best for your particular guitar," as if we're going to spend decades searching for the perfect strings. Forums are misleading because of all the D'Addario bashing that goes on. It's like if you use the world's number 1 strings then you must not have a very refined ear. Or you must use different tensions for the basses and trebles to get the perfect balance. What nonsense, and what a tremendous waste of time.

Here's the simple facts: D'Addario EJ45 strings are the best you're going to find in terms of balance, consistency, tone, durability, price, ease of play, and availability. But for a little bit more you can get the EXP45 strings that are virtually the same in every respect, except that they will last you twice as long.

Buy them, don't look back, your string problems are now over, and you can get back to practicing.

Comments about D'Addario EXP45 Coated Nylon Guitar Strings Normal Tension:

I use the coated EXP45 normal tension strings on my Guild GAD-C2NA classical guitar. This is the guitar I travel with and use for most fingerstyle applications. I reserve my Ramirez E4 for local classical performances. The bottom 3 strings have great definition and stay within a few cents of concert pitch for several months. The top 3 strings are the same nylons from the EJ45 set. They may drop 20 cents overnight, but tune right up and stay in tune while playing. This set has a respectable classical tone but is a little brighter than the EJ45 Pro Arte set. They are fantastic if you are playing and singing popular and rock songs along with a few classical favorites. You can beat on them with rougher technique and they hold up and sing out. The EXP45 set only puts about 81 lbs. on the neck as compared to 86 lbs. for the EJ45 set. The lighter feel makes them very versatile and reduces your fatigue. The D'Addario claim is true: The composite core bottoms really do last 3-4 times longer. With a lot of practicing and performing, I can burn through an EJ45 set in 1-2 weeks. I've changed EXP45 sets at 2 months for a gig and have not really needed to. The windings will show some wear, but the bottoms are still staying in tune. The coating pays off if you don't always remember to wipe down the strings and fingerboard after playing.
