Twang King single-coil pickups
When DiMarzio decided to go for the vintage Tele sound, they knew they had to do more than just copy a forty-year-old design. They wanted pickups that captured the best elements of their favorite Broadcaster and Telecaster sounds, and then some. The Twang King pickups have unequaled response to pick attack: light playing produces a soft, quiet tone and hard picking creates a harder, louder, and more dynamic sound than any comparable single-coil. This was accomplished with a combination of controlled-tension coil-winding, special wire, and hand-calibrated magnets. Wax-potted twice for squeal-free performance, Twang King pickups produce big, clean lows and highs, yet are able to handle a very wide dynamic range, so the sound would clean up with soft picking and really open up with a harder attack.

Comments about DiMarzio Vinatage Twang King Pre-Wired Pickup Set for Tele:

The ease of installation and quality are very good for these pickups. The sound is what a telecaster should sound like with sharp clean highs and good crisp lows with no noise. I installed these in a thin line I wanted to upgrade. Now it sounds better than expected. For the price they are hard to beat.

Comments about DiMarzio Vinatage Twang King Pre-Wired Pickup Set for Tele:

These pickups took my 1980 Tokai '52 telecaster copy/clone to the next level, and then some. It was a pretty sweet guitar before, a true MIJ lawsuit type telecaster...but when I got it, it hadn't been taken care of and was pretty beat up, and needed some improvements...mainly the electronics were old and in disrepair. These pickups came with the whole packag-- the switches, knobs, wires, and solderless installation, all of which needed replacement on this particular instrument--so the purchase made sense when they went on sale for black friday. Took me about 15 minutes and...wow. Now the thing sounds the way real telecaster players from Nashville make their's sound: with a touch of overdrive and a bit of eq the bridge pickup is about as spanky/country/chicken as any out there, and the neck pickup has a voice all its own--it does blues as well as a strat, although differently, and is really sweet for clean rock leads. At high gain, they absolutely sing...and what's more, they respond to the tone knob. A lot of F**d*r type guitars/pickups have to be dimed on the tone knob to sound good, but these are toneful all the way from 1 to 10 on the tone knob. And, they both are plenty hot--I A/B'd them against my G*b**n humbucking guitars and they are every bit as heavy and loud, while decidedly single coil flavored. Very well done, DiMarzio.

Comments about DiMarzio Vinatage Twang King Pre-Wired Pickup Set for Tele:

I bought this set for the same model alder Squier 60's classic vibe body that's in the video above (I parted the rest: Warmoth neck and guard; Wilky bridge; Fender/Schaller locking tuners). I really appreciate that you get the complete wiring harness, expertly hand-crafted in the DiMarzio workshop in nyc, with all US-sourced parts. The CTS/DiMarzio branded low-friction pots - combined with the heavy, solid-metal knobs they include - feel great and they're incredibly smooth. Both pickups are full-sounding, articulate and percussive. All 3 positions have a great sound. The bridge pickup succeeds in providing bite without being shrill. The neck pickup is warm and rich without getting muddy. They're distinctly different, but well-matched and blend well together in the middle position. The Tele geometry makes notes from this guitar "snap and pop," even unplugged - but, these pick-ups help bring that natural tone to life in a very organic and clear/percussive way. This is the best option to easily upgrade an inexpensive import (or partscaster, etc.) to all-US electronics and pickups. If, in the future, I decide to replace a pick-up, it will be easy to just unscrew the connection to the old pickup wires and screw down the new wires without having to solder the connections.

Comments about DiMarzio Vinatage Twang King Pre-Wired Pickup Set for Tele:

I built a telecaster made out of Pauwlina wood. Pauwlina is a mid-rangey tone wood. With the twang King pickups I was able to hear more of the highs and bass response and that characteristic midrange growl associated with Pauwlina wood. They're great pickups and my home built Tele sounds awesome now. They are easy to install and as with any other pickup be mindful of string vibration and pickup height. I would definitely purchase these again for another build. Hopefully musicians friend can provide more prewired solderless pickups in the future.
