Wasn't sure about a coated string set for electric - especially one that is definitely black in color. Once the initial break in was over (especially rubbing off the coating on the un-wound strings where the pick strikes), I've actually been amazed and pleased with both feel and tone. Too early to tell how long it will last, but definitely exceeded my expectations.

The coated strings were quite terrible. They feel strange. The A string was dead. I did one show with them and got rid of them.
I like the DR Pure Blues very much.

Awesome strings with great sound & feel good..... ( Important )...... Make sure you tear DR string box open & read directions on the inside of box, to install strings for best results & super long string life.

The pure blues strings are great, they have a decent lifespan and good tone. The black beauties however, feel and sound heavier than they should, likely attributed to the coating. I use the blues on my nicer guitars that I use for playing in practices and jamming with friends, and have been using the black beauties on the guitars that I play every day, the life span means less changing of strings on the heavy use guitars, while the blues are used more for the guitars that I want the proper tone and feel on. Both sets of strings have their virtues, and like many things, it really comes down to personal preference.

OMG I though nothing could make my 1970 Gibson Black beauty LP sound bad, but after putting these strings on my guitar had the muddies dead tone I have ever heard,pinch harmonics were so flat sounding.I only had them on for three hours of jamming, but I can't get these things off fast enough.. I have the Red devils on my Voodoo LP that sound nice and bright like they should very happy with. I will be replacing these with the nickle pure Beauties and hoping for a better result. So disappointed cause they looked cool with the gold hardware and black body..I would like to give this no stars but it wouldn't let me.;(

Sustain and tone to the bone. New to me. Thought why not. Change action for 10s and went to playing on these and am really impressed. Super slippery when you spray a little finger ease on them.

You can't beat the DR pure blues nickel strings. I love them. I see this three pack as buy two sets of the Blues and get the Black Beauty set free. Good thing it was free. Hated the feel under finger, didn't like the look and even my wife commented on how much better the timbre was after ripping out the blacks and going with the blues on the same partscaster guitar.

i bought these strings to last a long time, expecting they would last 3 times longer than most strings, because they cost three times more. They even say so on the packaging. Sadly I discovered that they were out as fast or faster than other strings, and the cool black coating wears off really really fast. Save your money and buy better strings

Plain and simple, While changing strings is not my favorite chore, I was very dissatisfied with black strings. Good thing they were in 3 pack with 2 pack price. These strings have drag. Tried string lube with no results. Fingers stick and not able to get the speed I'm used to. Get out your super glue for your fingers, you will need it. Stick with the Pure Beauties.

Great sound, great feel.
Round wound strings are just great for me. I just really like the buttery feel. They're so much more flexible. they just feel more natural to me, than hexogonal strings.
And I really like the pure nickel windings. REally fits my guitar sound.
As far as the Black Beauties, I haven't tried the new ones. The old ones sounded good, but the feel was a little weird to me. They seemed to create a little more friction on your fingers than the clean metal. Probably shoud just put FastFret on em or something. they sound great though.
I have never had problems with quality from DR. Most other strings sound pretty similar. These ones actually feel different and sound different.
Can't beat this value. Especially when it comes to DR, because they are generally overpriced in my opinion. But with this deal, it's an un-beatable value.

The black beauties look great and last longer because of the vinyl coating. Coating doesn't dull the sound at all - clear and vibrant. I use the pure blues PHR10 which cost $6 by them selves. SO I get 2 pks for $12 and a free pack of beauties. Can't beat this deal.
