here is a really great versatile capo with a unique (IMO) very cool design, but...
the quality of these capos leave a whole lot to be desired.
i am a shamelessly heavy capo user & have been for many years. i have tried & or used probably every capo known to man. this pickers pal capo is the only one i've found that works on all my acoustic 6 & 12 strings, & my resonators as well.& this is what most reviewers/users of this capo will agree on. but oh Mr. Dunlop please do something about the build quality of this product.
the first one i bought never survied the unwrapping from the blister pack. the little rubber/felt pad immediately fell off. i tried several different types of glue to re-stick it all of them failed except Gorilla Super Glue Gel. put 3 tiny drops about the size of a pin head on the base plate, hold the pad in place for about a minute (don't get the junk on your fingers) then clamp it & leave it overnight, & it aint coming off.
ok so thats a fix. next, i went to attach my new improved 'pal' to my guitar neck & the arm which has the several sided contact pad was kind of on an angle that made it not want to seat properly so i very gently attempted to bend it down slightly & it just snapped right off. huh?
i have a Paige Click capo made of some very strong, very light, very flexible, metal. this is what the beloved Pickers Pal should be made of.
so all in all 2 small improvements would certainly put the Pickers Pal in a class all it's own. true, it might up the price, but for the uniqueness & versatility of this capo, i'd for one would pay the price.
um...i would recommend this capo to a friend, but the recommendation would come with a warning.

The capo is affordable, which is a plus. It has an interesting design where you place the capo around the neck, close the arm, and then pull a lever that tightens the capo around the neck. Like many other people, I had my capo loose the soft felt padding that protects the neck, exposing the pad of the capo to a sticky surface. If you can get rid of the glue residue, then you can still use the capo, since the remaining padding is still soft enough. The capo may be to big for your instrument afterwords but this is remedied by opening the capo arm, sliding off the sleeve and putting it back on upside down, which makes of for the spacial difference that removing the felt makes. Overall a poorly build capo. But a flexible capo that can still be used after suffering its most notorious issue

Comments about Dunlop Pickers Pal Capo:

Just save for a better capo and you'll actually be able to use it for multiple times.
It works. for the first 5 - 10 times.
It'll break after short use. The little rubber thing will come off the plastic and the felt will also come off, leaving glue on your neck to clean up.
It's cheap so...

Only capo I'll ever use

By Stephen May

Comments about Dunlop Pickers Pal Capo:

They're discreet. They clamp down tight with even pressure across all six strings. Easy to set once you're used to it. I leave mine on the guitar all the time, You can clamp it above the nut when your not using it and slide it down when you want it. I used mine for 20 yrs before the dog ate it. Now I'm getting a new one.

Comments about Dunlop Pickers Pal Capo:

I'm over all pleased with this capo. The pad keeps coming off the back and the glue used to hold it does not hold it in place under pressure. So I'll have to end up finding a better adhesive. Otherwise, it works great and it's easy to to change the location quickly between songs.

        Decent if stayed intacted

Comments about Dunlop Pickers Pal Capo:

i've used this capo 10 times but then noticed it wouldnt lock down anymore because of a piece of foam rubber that fell off that sits up against the back of the neck , i'm still trying to find the piece of rubber so i can glue it back on, not a bad capo if it just stayed together , this happened at a gig and caused me to cancel a song I use the capo on , I suggest if you buy this , make sure you keep it in a plastic bag so you wont lose the part like i did, beside that , it works good and is very discreet as far as looks , dont care for bulky capos hanging off the side of the neck , but this one is very unoticable , which is good , I would recommend this product.......

Comments about Dunlop Pickers Pal Capo:

The shrink wrap packaging was hard to remove and probably aided the neck pad falling off.

When I got the capo out of the packaging, I noticed something on the floor - the neck pad.

A dab of super glue glued the neck pad back on, but I shouldn't have had to do that. You need to make sure the pads are adequately glued on and that the packaging is more attractive and easier to remove - like, a clear plastic slip-on packaging.

Comments about Dunlop Pickers Pal Capo:

Design flaw #1: I'm referring to the excess pressure on the strings when the capo is stored above the nut. If locked down above the nut, the pressure changes the tuning. You can move the lever to relieve the pressure which leaves the lever perpendicular to the neck. However, you'll have to remove the capo to fit the guitar back in its case, which defeats the one attractive feature of this type of capo, which is to leave it on the guitar.

Design flaw #2: The backing pad is loose to the point it takes two hands to adjust the capo.

There are other capos out there that perform way better.

ATTENTION LEAD BELLY RECREATORS: If you tune your 12-string like Lead Belly (especially the use of heavy gauge strings with a double octave on the 6th pair), this is the ONLY capo you can use. Trust me! (I've been doing this a long time.) This capo lets you choose any one of 4 interchangeable bar faces to hold the strings down, each with a different curvature and thickness, but only the maximum curvature will hold down a .068 or .070 right next to a .012-.014 on a curved fingerboard. It will get you to Bottle Up and Go! (Yes, sometimes the pad on the opposite side falls off and you have to glue it back on, but it's either this or you can't use the heavy gauge, and then your Lead Belly will sound a lot less Lead Bellyish).

I've had mine so long, I can't remember when I bought it - 20-30 years ago. It's very easy to change frets, and it works for just about any guitar - thin or thick neck, round or flat fingerboard. I have used mine on a wide variety of guitars. I think I will stick to this capo - getting another one so I'll always have a backup and won't have to switch it from one guitar to another when performing.

I first bought one in the early '80s (they've been around quite a while), and still use it. Best capo out there for guitars with oversize frets. The cam lever lets you adjust how hard it presses against the strings, and will prevent the strings from going out of tune high. The top bar has a rubber piece with four sides - low and high curved, low and high flat - use high for thinner necks, low for thicker - use curved for most acoustic and electric, flat for classicals. They aren't a quick as a Kyser, but you can get pretty quick installing them.

I like this design for a couple of reasons. First, it stays on the neck all the time. You just slide it up to the fret you want to capo and clamp it. One hand. If you're not using it, slide it back behind the nut. Second, it doesn't stretch the strings causing tuning problems. You can choose the amount of clamping pressure. One problem, it won't work on some guitars. Such as Martins that have a diamond volute. Great product!
