OVERVIEW

Combat finger grunge!

Prolong your tone with the same acoustic guitar strings that experienced players worldwide trust to keep their incredible tone longer than any other string available.

Unlike other string brands, Elixir Strings coats the whole string. This protects not only the outer string surface but also the gaps between the windings where common tone-deadening gunk typically builds up in other brands’ coated and uncoated guitar strings. Anti-Rust Plating on plain steel strings ensures longer tone life for the entire set.

Who wouldn’t love more quality playing time between the hassle and cost of string changes?

Premium by design, these acoustic strings constructed with 80/20 (80% copper, 20% zinc) bronze wrap wire boast a crisp, bright tone with an expressive, vibrant presence. Compared to Elixir's original POLYWEB Coating, the ultra-thin NANOWEB Coating allows a more traditionally textured, “uncoated” feel.

For a slicker, gentler feel, try the original POLYWEB Coating on their 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Strings, which also feature a more robust and rounded tone. For more of a balance between bold and bright, Elixir's Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings with NANOWEB Coating deliver full-bodied tone and sparkling high-end clarity alongside the same traditional feel as these 80/20 bronze strings.

Of course, the kind of string you play is all a matter of personal preference. Not sure what tone or feel is right for you? Try them out for yourself, and find your new favorite string from Elixir Strings. For a more in-depth look at what makes our strings so special, scroll to the branded info further down the page.

I used to play a too hard and loud on my acoustic and would often break a string even using heavy weight. After I got a good amp and began to plug in I switched to light strings for tone quality. But I fount that the light strings just didn't have the bass umph I was looking for. I often play stand-alone and really need that low end to fill in. Someone at a local guitar store suggested these strings and wow! Great tone quality and flexibility of the light strings, but with a beefier low end. They work amazingly well. And that along with the Elixir quality and longevity. I had a friend guitarist pick up my guitar and just rave about the sound and he was shocked to find out that the strings were nearly a year old. I see no reason to ever go back to another string style or brand. These fit my purposes perfectly.
The price is higher than other brands, but well worth your money. You won't regret it.

I could not play for 5 minutes straight without stopping because of sore fingers and left hand/forearm, and I have callousness, I've played guitar for about 15 years and these are the hardest acoustic strings I've ever played, and I bought the Light/Medium tension and that's what I was expecting, they do feel very smooth in the left hand (when sliding) but they're extremely hard to play, so I took them off in 4 days, (got some Martin's and much happier with them) I would only try them again if they have an Extra Extra Light version and the price was better (I paid about five dlls for the Martin's and they're so good).

Best Strings on the Market

By Liese

Comments about Elixir 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings with NANOWEB Coating, Light/Medium (.012-.056):

When I bought my Martin HD-28V, before I took it home, I requested that we replace the Martin strings (which came special order straight from the factory with the guitar, so those strings fairly new), with the Elixir Light Medium gauge. The guitar playability and sound noticeably improved, even the guy at the guitar store decided to change all the strings on the other Martin guitars to these particular Elixirs, because of the sound, playability and longevity. I find the Light-Mediums to be a terrific balance of weight and tone. Lasts incrediblly long!! It's amazing. And a major bonus - I no longer have to put up with the shreaking squeaks when sliding.

Great Balance of tone and longevity

Comments about Elixir 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings with NANOWEB Coating, Light/Medium (.012-.056):

For me, the compromise of having the bottome strings Medium and the top strings light work well with my style of playing and for my guitar.
I have tried many different strings over the years for my Taylor 914. I keep going back to the Elixir. I feel that the 80/20 bronze sound better than the phosphor bronze on my guitar.

I am not a professional but do play in a praise band regularly, plus in another band that plays a lot of acoustic rock from the 60s and 70s.

I knew that I did not want to go to Medium strings because I do a lot of finger style but I do strum as well. I found that the light medium strings to work well with my style of playing. The top 3 strings are from a light set, and the bottom 3 are from a medium set of strings. When I strum or pick hard I do not have as much fret noise on the lower strings, but the top strings are still subtle and suitable for finger style playing.

These were a great find.
Have always had good luck with Elixir
cost 2 times as much as regular strings but the tone last at least twice as long. So if you are critical of your sound, these are worth it.

I've been experimenting with Elixir strings lately. The biggest plus was the subdued string noise when playing. I did find that the strings had a sort of 'canned' sound to them when first put on. After a couple of days however, that went away and they opened up, turning noticeably better in overall tone. Their longevity is what their reputation is known for and why they cost more than other strings.

The main problem with Elixirs is I never feel the need to change them... They just last and last. Any change in sound quality is so gradual it's nearly undetectable. So after several years I finally decide I must certainly need to change the strings, especially since I'm thinking of recording a few tunes. The new ones are shinier and do sound brighter. Good for another long spell!

Replaced Medium Martin Strings on my booming concert jumbo Epiphone EJ 200CE and Martin D-16 (fan-freaking-tastic picking guitar!!) with these strings ... big big difference! Playability time between sets is way noticeable! The bass is not too deep and the bright first three strings are pure heavenly in tone. My path toward these strings came from the Aussie pro cover artist, Pete Last. Not sure about other post(s) which have their set "going dull" part, but these strings are worth every penny to me!

This is the fourth set of Elixirs (over many years) I decided to try again-because I bought a maple bodied guitar that was too bright, and I knew these were strings that went dull in a week or so.
used less than a day, gave them to a fellow picker to try.
Way too expensive, as I usually change strings at least once a month, often much sooner.
                                I'm sticking with D'Addario EJ16's.

Comments about Elixir 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings with NANOWEB Coating, Light/Medium (.012-.056):

My acoustic guitars are a 1965 Gibson J50 and a Martin HD28 2006. I usually use Martin medium gage strings but I decided to give these a try based on the reviews already posted here. I replaced a 2 month old set of martins on my D28, which were past their prime, with a set of these. The old Martin strings sounded as good or better than a new set of Nanoweb Elixir strings. Disappointing to say the least. I then replaced the Elixir strings with a set of light gage Martins that I had laying around. What a difference! No more elixirs for me.
