I have many guitars and usually buy guitars that sounds great already and have no intentions to mod or make changes. However I bought a guitar online and the sound was not to my expectations. I did the research and decided this combo would cover my intended sonic signature. Installation was a snap thanks to the modular system and excellent printed instructions and layouts. I will tell you know that if you have a single cutaway guitar (think Les Paul or close to that design) these will change your life. I play alot of heavier rock/metal as well as cleaner classic rock. These pickups respond excellent to rolling off and adding volume to control distortion. They also keep the volume pretty resonalble when rolling off as well. If you play a lot and gig you know this is vital to live playing, allowing you to play crunchy for rhythym and molten, singing leads without footswitching is nice. I hope this helps to guide you, I have had the 81/85s and they are good. I think you will agree this setup offers more sonic territory and a better sound especially the pickup volume when switching from the neck to the bridge (common complaint from 81/85 users). CJWII

I put a set in a schecter guitar. replacing SD passives. I'm very impressed with the tone and clarity. Fits exceptionally well with the style of music I usually play rock/hardrock/metal. Few distortion adjustments and they sound good playing blues and jazz as well. I'll keep a set in my "go to" guitars from now on. One tip, if your toggle switch is old, go ahead and replace it too.

I have used this pickup configuration for years. I prefer heavier not necessarily faster music and these pickups deliver just that. These are just like any other active pickup in feel and response but their ability to clearly define the sound from the strings is what sets them apart. I installed a set into a schectre sunset deluxe about six years ago and they sound just as good today as when I first installed them. I have played them through solid state and tube amps with great results. If you have trouble dialing them in then it is probably your amp or you bought them for the wrong purpose. The cheaper the amp means less quality parts and sound. These pickups sound amazing running through my Mesa mark 5 but it is really hard to get close to the same sound through my blackstar ht5. There is just too big a gap in quality and performance that is noticed when adjusting treble, mid, and bass between the two amps. But they do make the sound quality better than anything else. The only thing I don't like is you need to make sure you take the time to route the wires properly. If you leave too much tension at the connections they will slip loose. So take the time to route and secure the wiring properly. If you like to play thrash, heavy metal or just really heavy rock this pickup set should be looked into.
