The EMG-H3 uses two stud piece loaded coils for better noise rejection with over-wound coils and a ceramic magnet. This pickup uses the traditional solid cover cap in a unique HZ design. All HZ Pickups have EMG's exclusive 5-wire quik-connect output allowing any number of wiring combinations, and are fully shielded for a minimum of noise. String grounding is recommended to further decrease noise.

Comments about EMG H3 Passive Humbucker:
Well, i have to say that i love EMG's active and some of the passive lines but, this pickup is not versatile. It is great for hardrock (not metal generaly) aplications where individual string clarity is of the utmost importance. This thing is great in mohagny bodied guitars but, falls short in alder bodies. It has a dark yet punchy tone which works well in say an SG. i give this a 5 in value simply because it is overpriced in my humble opinion, while it is a great pickup especialy when you depend more on your amp or effects to shape your sound than you would the pickup itself it falls short of having an individualy unique tonal quality which ironicaly maybe what makes it "sound unique". It is good for high gain amps as it is quiet and tends to "tame" the harshly overdriven amps well but, has low dynamics. In all i would say a fantastic rhythm pickup and for picking style playing but, a little lack luster on leads when it comes to any experimentation, as i said it's basicaly great if you're running modes/scales quickly and precisely but, i wouldn't recomend this for soulful players. I still love this thing as well as EMG's in general and their customer service is fantastic but, if you are looking at EMG's for metal as most often people do this would not be the best imo to get unless you install a gain boost pot in your guitar with it. High gain hard rock all the way but, saturated metal it's not! Go for an h4 passive or an 81 active for shredding!
Comments about EMG H3 Passive Humbucker:
Hello Everyone: A lot of people knock the EMG HZ series pickups but they need to realize they are a totally diffent breed of emg pickups. The H3 is kind of like a PAF with a little more punch, it has some nice mids, and some nics highs.A lot of people use the recommendation of putting in a .047 capacitor, "DON'T" use the general rule of thumb with humbuckers a .022 capacitor, the .047 makes the pickup muddy, I have the pickup installed in an Ibanez ART100 and it has a nice tone, I installed a HZ H4 in the neck and with this combo it really has a nice tone.I like emg's but I do not like changing batteries that was one of my main reasons in wanting to try out the HZ's, the bad part is the fact there is no really good description for the tone on their pickups so it is a hit or miss when buying the HZ pickups, but give them a chance, and if your guitar already has them, change the capacitor, it does make a difference.
Comments about EMG H3 Passive Humbucker:
The passive emg models are probably some of the most underrated pickups out there. I've had this pup installed in a korina explorer and a strat, both with excellent results. Anyone who enjoys the active emgs but wants a better clean sound and no batteries will love these. The pickup is very hot as to be expected and has a very balanced sound. The bass is just a little weak, but putting it in a bassy guitar like a les Paul will more than fix the problem.

Comments about EMG H3 Passive Humbucker:
I have always been a fan of EMG pickups.I use them in my Basses and Guitars alike. The usefullness of them are endless and the versatility of them far exceed any other pickup I have used.I like the 81/85 active combo.or the H3/H4 passive combo. They are a great choice for a swap or if you are like me and make your own guitars. They should be the first choice for anyone, the beginner or experienced musician. The Customer sevice at Musicians Friend is personal and they will beat any price on any product they carry. I have bought many different items here and will not shop anywhere else.
Comments about EMG H3 Passive Humbucker:
It's an okay humbucker. I have a pair of them in my Jackson and their decent. They are great for heavy distortion with lots of trebble but terrible for anything other than that. Their tone is flat, murky and quite boring. The good thing about them is they have no humming, no buzzing, and no feedback. If you're into music like Slayer, Metalica, and Lamb of God, they are a great buy, but if you have a larger range of musical taste, go with Seymour Duncans. They're far better humbuckers for the same price.
Comments about EMG H3 Passive Humbucker:
I actually bought a pair of these about a year ago. With them came the optional booster. I put them into an Ibanez RG320QM. Much the same as the H4, quiet, gain, and the harmonics cut like a knife. Feedback isn't really an issue. I never had a problem with it and was trying to get feedback out of my amp, without the gate!
