Excellent replacement for Fender

By Jimmy Elvis

from Detroit, MI

Comments about Eminence Tonkerlite 12" Guitar Speaker:

I have heard of some musicians using these Tonkerlites in Fender twin reverbs because of the 16 lbs it saves. I own a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 1 x 12-40w and my back is not what it use to be, so the prospect of lightening the load was attractive, and that was all I expected. I removed the Celetion 35 that was stock, and installed the new Tonkerlite by Eminence. I was skeptical at first- I mean how could a 4oz vs a 7lb magnet compare. I was totally blown away. I turned the volume up to find the weakpoints of the speaker- it did not sound like a pile of mush, especially when using lower regiter power bar chords- I played Jazz, Rock Blues and Country at volumes much higher than at gigs- using a Fender Strat and a Gibson Earl Roberts Guitars This is the real deal-I am extremely pleased, not only lighter but much more capabilities over the stock speaker, the tone is whatever you choose it to be, it stays true to the settings for the modes of music I mentioned above

Comments about Eminence Tonkerlite 12" Guitar Speaker:

i've owned this speaker for a couple years. used in various 1x12 and 2x12 cabinets. however, after recently picking up a Budda SuperDrive 18 combo, i experimented with replacing the stock Budda speaker, which is made by Eminence and is an 80watt speaker by the way. first tried a Marshall Heritage speaker in the Budda and was quickly disappointed with the tonal qualities compared to the stock speaker. next i put in the tonkerlite. man was i surprised at how great this speaker was in the Budda. it sounds almost identical to the stock Budda speaker and has a 4oz magnet vs an 8lb magnet. super huge sounding speaker. very responsive. totally dig it. it'll stay in the combo and saves a lot of weight to boot.

Comments about Eminence Tonkerlite 12" Guitar Speaker:

I bought this instead of the Lil Texas and I'm glad I did. This is plenty bright for my tastes. I'm using it with a Quilter solid state head for the ultimate in lightweight amplification. I really bought it for my Gibson but it sounds much better with the Fender. In fact, if you like a bluesy, low gain tone, this speaker sounds fantastic with a Stratocaster.

I may try a Deltalite for the Gibson. That's supposed to be similar to an EV, and that's closer to what I'm after. I thought this would be more Celestion like, and it is. But it's more Greenback than 12k-100, if that makes sense.
