Finger pickers can use Fred Kelly finger picks as substitute for thin, brittle natural fingernails. Some players may need to modify them for a more comfortable fit, such as in the photo. Left, index finger, as received new, right, on middle finger, as modified w/Dremel. Works for me, may or may not work for others. Otherwise, a fine product.

I have small fingers and tried the size small first. Out of the three only one could be used on my ring finger, even after attempting to reshape them.I ordered the medium size next to see if they would work. They fit my index and middle finger but needed to be adjusted because they dug into my nail cuticle. I used my birds perch to reshape the pic after letting it sit in boiled water for 30 seconds. It helped some what but it still put pressure on the cuticle, but was bearable.. I won't order these again as they are sold now in pkgs of three the same size. Would like to see the problem with cuticle pressure fixed in the design, then I would order again.

Comments about Fred Kelly Picks Poly Freedom Finger Guitar Picks:

Of the three types of finger picks I've tried, these come about as close to replacing natural fingernails, functionally and sound-wise, as any I've tried to date, and allow me to play guitar as I'm accustomed to with little "modification" in playing style. However, because they're the wrong size, they are a bit too tight and aren't very comfortable to wear for any length of time. Some experimentation to get the right size might be called for. They DO seem to be VERY durable and appear to be able to hold up over long periods of time.

Takes a couple of minutes to adjust to, but perfect for a combination of picking and flailing; no hangups on downstroke. A bit sharp near the cuticle, but a quick soak in hot water and a slight outward bend solved that. I absolutely LOVE this style of pick!

Comments about Fred Kelly Picks Poly Freedom Finger Guitar Picks:

Great picks! Their only shortcoming is that the picking edges are so slippery that it's hard to feel exactly where you are on the guitar strings. I solved that by roughing up the edges with sandpaper. Worked perfectly!

Comments about Fred Kelly Picks Poly Freedom Finger Guitar Picks:

Interesting enough I have found these picks work better for me if I turn them around 180 degrees on my finger with the "nail" to the back. They don't hurt my finger as much, and they stay on better. If you have already purchased some and don't like how they are working out try turning them around.

                • Very painful on my middle finger

Comments about Fred Kelly Picks Poly Freedom Finger Guitar Picks:

I had high hopes I could use these to accent a style I have unwittingly developed over the years on guitar. Playing rhythm I pluck the bass strings with my thumb and strum the strings back and forth with my middle finger. These picks are very painful to the cuticle on my middle finger and furthermore won't stay on my finger. I wrapped a paper based tape around my finger to help ease some of the pain and then wrapped some around the base of the pick and lapped onto my finger. When I do this the pick stays on, but when I switch to bass or piano all of that has to come off. If guitar was all I played I would do this and carry on and could still use the flat pick when necessary. I wanted to love these, but they're just not working out for me.

Comments about Fred Kelly Picks Poly Freedom Finger Guitar Picks:

Semi-professional musician. I have used resin fingernail extensions previously because the metal or plastic picks available were all uncomfortable to me. A medical condition has created thin brittle fingernails which won't support the resin. These feel a little bulky to begin with, but comfortable on the fingers, and don't put too much strain on the nails..

Most guitarists who play classical or finger-picking style steel string grow out their right hand nails. But I need to keep those nails short for playing piano and similar instruments.

I've tried just about every style of fingerpick. These Fred Kelly fingerpicks are the only ones that I find fit comfortably and function like a nail. My only choice for guitar playing. Excellent design and execution.
