Comments about Gator GL Lightweight Bass Guitar Case:
First off, this case is constructed really well. The zippers, the thermal foam, and outer covering are top notch. Keep in mind, it's not going to replace an ATA flight case, but it's definitely more protection that any of the gig bags out there.
The most difficult aspect of buying one of these types of cases is to see if it will fit your bass. I've tried several of my basses in it, and here is what I found:
1) Fender MIM 5 String Jazz - the body is a tight, but perfect fit, the neck and headstock are all well protected, the top horn hits the stop at the right place, and the sides are exactly a good fit. It's like it was made for this bass.
2) Peavey Cirrus 5 String - this bass has a bit of slop (about 3/4" travel) from the body length to the top horn. It's a 35" scale. I would be OK using the case as is with this bass.
3) Pedulla ThunderBass 5 - this has a lot more movement, about 1.5" for the body back to the top of the top horn. I would not use this in this case without something to take up the extra room at the bottom of the bass. There is a lot of room between the headstock and the top of the case, but if the body is well supported, this would not bother me. This requires me to make an insert to feel comfortable using it.
4) Yamaha TRB II 5 string - this bass doesn't fit in the case. The top horn is too long, and will deform the wall holding the body at that point. It's the only bass I found that I have, which didn't fit.
5) Lakland 55-94 5 string, 35" scale. Fits really well, a little play in the body similar to the Cirrus 5 string, but I'd be perfectly fine using it for this bass.
6) MTD 5 string Kingston - fits great, just like the Lakland and the Cirrus. No issues with using it as is.
7) USA Fender P Bass 5 string - it's like this case was made for this bass. The top horn fits snugly in the space, and the side to side body spacing is OK, about an inch of room (more than the Jazz bass), but I'd be ok using it as is.
The design of the neck support (from the body, through the nut) is really well done. It seems to magically accommodate 4 and 5 strings of many brands, with different spacing, and different neck profiles.
I've tried a number of these lightweight cases, and without throwing any other brands under the bus, Gater has a winner here.
Hope this helps figure out if your bass might fit... Sorry, most of my basses are 5 string, so I wasn't able to provide insight to 4 strings, but I feel comfortable saying that the structure of the neck support in this case should easily work for similar 4 string models.

Comments about Gator GL Lightweight Bass Guitar Case:
I purchased this for a Peavey Millennium 5 AC BXP 5-String bass, and it fits quite well. The top horn on the bass is a toucn long for the padding inside the case; however not to the extent that it can't be tweaked a tiny bit...and it fits great. Your guitar strap will need to be removed before putting this bass in the case, but I have quick releases...so that's not a problem. NOT a case for serious banging around...but exactly what I was looking for.
Comments about Gator GL Lightweight Bass Guitar Case:
Again, this is my go-to case for almost all my guitars and basses. More of a lightweight hardshell case than a gig bag. If you typically go gig bag for space as you ride public transportation this won't do it. But if you are looking for lightweight case with excellent protection and durability this is your answer.
I have shifted to these cases for all my instruments over the past few years. while I wouldn't recommend this type of case if you are touring or packing with a van full of gear, for transporting your bass to a gig it is perfect. Rigid enough to protect your bass, but WAY lighter than a wooden case or flight case. I also find this case fits my Lakland 5'er better than the hardshell TKL case I was using, and drops several pounds in the exchange. It does come with a strap so you can use it as a gig bag, but I find that a useless addition, but not enough to change my rating as I did not buy it for that feature.
Very high quality. I have used one of these for my strat for almost 8 years and the zippers still work great. What impresses me most is the interior, where the fit is just perfect. I have several of these for electric, acoustic (jumbo), and bass and they fit perfectly without being too loose or too tight. Zippers and handles are well attached and high quality. The case is just rigid enough that it protects the bass almost as good as a hardshell. Cordura cover is very sturdy. I have yet to rip any holes in mine and some of them have survived some long road trips. By contrast, the tolex on my TKL hardshell seems to get torn easily.
I bought mine using one of the regular discount offers, but even at full price it is a great value. Much cheaper (and better IMHO) than a hardshell, but WAY more protection than a gig bag.
Comments about Gator GL Lightweight Bass Guitar Case:
I took my Squier bass on a roughly 500 mile road trip and this case kept it and a lot of my smaller gear secure for the ride. The bass fits perfectly and there's plenty of room for small equipment like tuners, cables, capos, a couple magazines and even my BP80 effect pedal. It is lightweight, and fits comfortably in the back seat of my Buick. Highly recommended.
Comments about Gator GL Lightweight Bass Guitar Case:
that's the reason I bought it. would have preferred a hard case but they're too expensive. My bass is just a squier p-bass but it fits perfect, storage compartments are roomy for cords & strap & tuner and the lid seals them when shut, so your stuff doesn't flop around during transportall in all a decent case. when I upgrade to a more expansive bass I will definitely get a hard case for it.

My MIM Fender P Bass fits in here nicely. Not a true hard case, but more than adequate for lugging to and from practice. Provides more protection than a gig bag by far. Great deal for the price.

Comments about Gator GL Lightweight Bass Guitar Case:
This is a really light case I will give it that! The only problem I have with this case is that the material on the outside tends to hold dust, dirt, or grass when you lay it down to get your bass guitar out. This is really the only problem that I have with it. another problem I had is when I went to put my bass in there the very first time, I had to modify the inside wall so that the body will fit in there. I know that this is my fault for not reading in the specs to see the size of the case itself. As for traveling with me I have no problem because I have my rig in a way that nothing sits on the guitar case for the ride. but if you are doing some serious touring or just a heavy load I would get a stronger case; but this one is just fine for me. Gator fan all the way!

Comments about Gator GL Lightweight Bass Guitar Case:
Great case. Light weight, good protection. I have two of these cases by Gator and I love both of them. Sure you could get a hard case for about the same price, but you won't get nearly as much storage as this case offers. I fully believe these cases are just as protective as any hard case. I plan on getting another one in the near future to protect my hollow body electric.
Comments about Gator GL Lightweight Bass Guitar Case:
This case fit the Gibson Firebird guitar perfectly, as if it was made for the guitar. Yes, I know it is a bass case, but the extra large body on the firebird makes it too large for the regular guitar cases.
Comments about Gator GL Lightweight Bass Guitar Case:
Play weekly and have for five years, using this Gator case. Only regret - the hinges are now beginning to come apart, so handle with care as you open and close - but a really good product, easy to pack in and out of vehicles, and takes great care of my bass (Ibanez soundgear).

Comments about Gator GL Lightweight Bass Guitar Case:
My old case was a wood one that was coming apart and was super heavy. This case is light weight! and appears to provide plenty of protection. Also, I sized it with MuFriend chart. It fits my Fender Mexican Bass to a T. I just got it so I don't know how well it will hold up, but it seems plenty tough.

Comments about Gator GL Lightweight Bass Guitar Case:
This is as good as a case as you can get for the price. I just recently sold it with an old bass of mine and would definitely buy another if I wasn't looking for a hard shell. I used it for about 6 years and its still in great condition (just not cosmetically). This case rode in the trunk of my car for at least 5 or 6 trips a month (just across town) and I never worried about my bass being safe. I used the shoulder strap two or three times before one of the connectors broke, didn't bother me though as I never carried the case more than a quarter-mile. The zipper never gave me even the slightest of problems, which is surprising considering it doesn't appear that heavy-duty. The fabric on the corners frayed pretty significantly, but that was after a year or two, besides that didn't affect how well my bass was protected. The snap that holds the two handles together tore through the fabric it was attached to so it was no longer functional, but that didn't really even inconvenience me and that was after I'd been using the case for over 5 years. The storage compartments were great, you can fit just about everything you need in them (even a couple small pedals). The only thing that could've made this case better is if it was covered with some type of water resistant fabric or finish. Buy it, its that simple.

This was a good buy.
Comments about Gator GL Lightweight Bass Guitar Case:
This is a perfect case: lightweight but strong, with full neck and body support inside as well as room for strap and other items. I tried a Fender hardshell case (molded) for my P bass and the quality and workmanship were terrible, plus it cost significantly more.
Comments about Gator GL Lightweight Bass Guitar Case:
i play bass, and i use this case to carry it around everywhere i go. I found it at a local music store, and bought it about 6 months ago. it's really light weight, so you don't have to throw your shoulder out just picking it up, but it has hard plastic on the inside (that you can't see) that protects it really really well. the only problem i had with it was that the zippers are a little frustrating. but i highly reccommend this product. The zipper on the part that actually opens the case is really heavy duty, and doesn't frustrate me. it's the ones on top where u can store cords and stuff that frustrates me. They aren't very strong, and one of the strings came off along with the thing that pulls the actual zipper. Also, there is some netting so you have like a clear view of whats inside on one of the pouches, and that ripped off on mine. but it's not about the accessories right? the fact is, this thing gets the job done. Buy it now.
