I have a late 90's Fender acoustic. I bought it when I was 18, probably payed too much, but I saw the Fender name and solid top and thought "BETTER!" The guitar is ok, but can sometimes sound a bit..toyish. I had the same bronze strings on for about 5 years (I was mostly playing electric through headphones in an apartment). I generally play electric, but everyone's gotta have an acoustic. So when I moved, I finally got around to putting on a new set of phosphor bronze strings and my guitar sounded far too bright, and...weird. Kind of cheap. I started looking for suggestions to mellow the tone a bit and came across the silk and steel strings, thought I'd give them a shot. They really helped the tone. I'm not an acoustic expert, but I am much happier with the sound. I image they won't last 5 years like that last set. I'm happy with this purchase.

They are a bit light. I was using 12s in bronze, and these are 11s plus they are softer. I had some fret buzz, but got rid of most of it with a minor tweak of the truss rod. There is still more buzz than with the 12s, but it's acceptable. I think I sanded down my bridge a little when I bought the guitar to lower the action. So that could also be a problem.

Good initial sound, but quickly die

I really liked the initial warm sound that I got from these strings, but the strings wore out much faster than other more traditional strings (such as D'Addario Phosphor Bronze strings)

Excellent Strings

By Chimo

from Gouverneur, NY

Comments about GHS 350 Silk and Steel Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

Excellent Strings for finger style playing as well as folk strumming. Seems not to have the same edge as conventional strings to play rock and roll. The wound strings do have a softer touch and are easier to play but the first two unwound strings still have that cheese cutter effect on you fingers. They sound great with a piezo pickup; I noticed less of the usual chirpy sound.

Good strings with mellow tone

By hiddenleaf

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about GHS 350 Silk and Steel Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I went to my local music store and asked them about strings that wouldn't squeak. They recommended these GHS strings to me. I also have small hands, so the softness of these strings feel good to me. They have a warm tone which I like when fingerpicking. However, I also do a lot of string bending, and the winding around the G string seems to wear down easily when rubbed against frets.

Sweet Sound, But They Tarnish!

By MannaManna

from East Coast

Comments about GHS 350 Silk and Steel Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

The sound that I get off of these strings is great. A little bit different from other strings in a way that I can't quite identify... but a very good way, especially when I play gentle ballads rather than pounding out rock solos. They last about as long as any other strings in this price range, but unlike other strings, when they oxidize they tarnish! After the first few days of playing, I actually get dark spots on some of my fingers where they touch the strings! No big deal, but it weirded me out at first. It's the real price for putting semi-precious metals in there. :)

I use these strings on my 1/2 sized 1960-1970 era global acoustic guitar. With normal acoustic guitar strings it sounds to harsh and trebley. these silk & steel strings are just right for it.
