OVERVIEW

Shows the hours of life remaining on your stomboxes and active pickups without removing the battery.

Plug the Batt-O-Meter Battery Tester into virtually any battery-operated device with a 1/4" jack input and find out if and when to change its battery. Stop wasting time and money; don't guess when to change batteries; know with the Batt-O-Meter.

The Batt-O-Meter Battery Tester looks inside your active pickup instruments and 9-volt devices to measure voltage and remaining hours of use. Fast, accurate, and easy to use, the Batt-O-Meter: saves you from risk and stress of dead batteries before a performance. You'll also save money by extending the life of each battery, and save time by checking battery life before taking things apart. Feel better knowing that you're helping the environment by discarding fewer batteries.

The Keith McMillen Instruments' Batt-O-Meter also checks hard-to-reach batteries by plugging into the 1/4" input found on most guitars, basses and effects pedals.

Use the Batt-O-Meter battery tester to quickly and accurately measure how many volts a battery is delivering, the number of hours left before the power runs out, and the remaining life in any 1.5-volt or 9-volt battery. Just plug the gold-plated Power Probe into the 1/4" input on most instruments and effects pedals to test the life remaining in hard-to-reach batteries.

Test more battery types with increased precision with the Batt-O-Meter's convenient slide switch that differentiates between alkaline, rechargeable, and carbon zinc batteries. The right-angle, 1/4" jack can check a hard-to-reach battery still inside your equipment.

And, yes, Mr. Smarty Pants, the Batt-O-Meter performs a self-test of its internal battery and displays the percentage of battery life left.

For guitars and effects that use the ring connection of a TRS (stereo) 1/4" jack to ground the negative connection of an internal battery for turning on it works excellently. It first tells you the battery type you've set, then the voltage, and then it turns on the device and measures the current flow to estimate how many hours of operation you have left (ideal before a gig!). Works great on my Boss FDR-1, Boss GE-7, Boss AD-2, and Maxon OD-808 (and likely all Tube Screamer clones). It does not work on my Boss RC-1 or TC Polytune 2. For the OD-808, if you want the hours estimate to be accurate, you need to have its mechanical foot switch set to on because the LED draws more power than the rest of the effect which runs all the time once the input jack is inserted.

Purchased this to check the battery in my active bass (Ibanez SR505). Worked fine on external batteries but gave an error when trying to check the battery in my bass. Exchanged it for another - same problem. I have heard through the grapevine that this does not actually work on all active basses. Disappointing - I'm going to return it.

Comments about Keith McMillen Instruments Batt-O-Meter Battery Tester:

I expected this thing to work on all my guitars but it does not. I watched a vid about this problem on youtube and figured it was them and would not be me. I was wrong.
I have 5 electic acoustic guitars and it works on two of them--one other one also but only if I wiggle it to a perfect spot. I like the idea of it but the contact is not good enough to touch what it needs to touch on all guitars.
It needs improvement but after all this time (two years) I have seen no desigh changes.
So, I would only recommend it if you can accept being able to check some guitars and not others. Which ones? Who knows!

        This Does Not Work!

By One Man Bass Guitar Army

Comments about Keith McMillen Instruments Batt-O-Meter Battery Tester:

The Batt-o-Meter is a great idea, but it does not work! Most devices I test start out with an SLF message thinking I'm doing a self-test on the Batt-o-Meter's internal battery, then returns a PL6 plug error message. Sometimes I can get a reading if I pull the power probe out of the jack about 1/8'' and hold it there, but not consistently. It's a waste of time & money.

Comments about Keith McMillen Instruments Batt-O-Meter Battery Tester:

Purchased this to check the battery life in my Sadowsky basses. I figured it would be great not having to remove the back cover plate and 9 volt battery to check the voltage. When plugged into the instrument input jack it does get a reading but it's not accurate. Brand new 9 volt batteries read 8.22 volts or less. When I check the same batterires on the side terminal of the meter I get a reading of 9.59 volts. I also tested the same battery with another voltage tester and it read 9.60 volts. Unfortunately Bat O Meter is useless when plugged straight into the bass which is why I purchased it.

Comments about Keith McMillen Instruments Batt-O-Meter Battery Tester:

I like that I can quickly test most of my basses without having to remove the wood screws. The reading I get from my 18v basses is skewed, but I'll see how it reads when it's time to replace those batteries.
I would recommend this product to a friend but with caution.

Comments about Keith McMillen Instruments Batt-O-Meter Battery Tester:

I bought my first Batt-O-Metter and when it arrived it was already broken from the battery connector. Musician's Friends was kind enough to replace it. They are really cheap made and lack overall quality. I currently Have 2 of these things one for giging and the other one to stay at home as a back up. I don't know how accurate this because with some batteries there is an ERROR display and with other batteries, when checking a functional battery, it marks a different percent each time you check it. I really hope that it gets an upgrade or that another company decides to make a better version of this thing.

Works on both my active Fender Jazz, and Precision basses, but not on my Stingray, or Alembic. I don't use pedals or effects, and bought this strictly to test the batteries in my basses. Fortunately, it works on the Fenders, which are what I use the most. The Batt-O-Meter is a great idea, but it should work on any and all devices, or instruments you plug it in to. If it did, then I would give it a "5 Star" rating. I would cautiously recommend this to a friend.

Just as so many others have said, this does not work on all active basses. It doesn't work on my Alembic Spoiler, or my Ernie Ball Stingray. It does, however, work on both of my Fender's which are the ones I gig with the most, so hopefully it will be worth it. Maybe it works well with pedals, (I don't use any), but I would think with all the negative press Keith McMillen is getting on his product from guitar/bass players, he would go back to the drawing board, and get it right.

Bought this to easily check the battery in my Gibson Songwriter which is buried inside. Oops, doesn't work on the Gibson. Nor does it work on 6 of the 7 guitars I own! Taylors, Gibsons, Martins, or Pimentel. Only one guitar, a Yamaha CPX15S with an LR Baggs preamp proved to work correctly with the Batt-O-Meter! Also, doesn't work with my para DI. About all it is good for is a hard to use voltmeter if you take the battery out!!!!

I was disappointed when I first got the meter because when I pushed it in all the way in my guitar, I didn't give a reading. However after reading another review from another customer who bought the meter, I discovered that if I partially pushed it in, it would give a reading although the readings aren't consistent. I'm hoping they are close enough to be fairly accurate.

As it turned out, I have to take the battery out of the guitar and manually test the battery with the meter. I bought this item for convenience and it certainly is not convenient.

What a great idea! If it only worked. I bought the Batt-O-Meter to test the battery in my gigging guitar, a Taylor 814ce. It does not work. Tried it in a friend's 114ce. It does not work. Contacted McMillen, great comopany to work with, but they suggested to return it. The writeup implies that the BOM will work on most guitars. I can not get it to work my Taylors.

as a musician and A/V tech responsible for a couple dozen battery powered units, I was tired of all the screwing and unscrewing and time spent testing gear.I was skeptical at first, but the Batt-o-meter is so handy and intelligent! I am really impressed. It even tells you how many hours are left in the battery! really cool. super useful.since I started using it last month, I've already saved myself more than the cost of the unit in still-useful batteries.also, better battery conservation is good for the environment. so get a Batt-o-meter! buy less batteries!save time! save the world! very cool.

We here at Road Tour Backline Service have been using the Batt-o-meter for the past few months with great results. The ability to check the battery in an active pickup system without having to restring the guitar is awesome. The audio division at our parent company has been "liberating" the device to test standard and rechargeable batteries. I think we will be getting a few more...

Very simple to use and very helpful to have. I own a pedal board with a few different devices that I sometimes like to pull off and use individually. Among these are a boss tuner and a dunlop wah. The batt-o-meter tests them and my other pedals accurately. It's good to know that I don't have to shoot in the dark and guess when I need to change batteries!I also use the batt-o-meter as a battery tester. You can test AA and other batteries with it, so I'll use it to check the juice on my remote control batteries or whatever else around the house. The device is very small so it's easy to use pretty much anywhere. Great device, definitely worth the money.

                        Kind of sort of works

Bought so I'd be for-sure for-sure that i dont need to change a battery during a gig. This unit does not gain my confidence. Gave me two totally different readings on my Modulus 9V bass preamp. Did not work at all on my acoustic electric guitar. Seems to work on some other instruments, but I feel like i dont really know the score with this device. Seems like it needs a tech revision. Great idea though.

I use a lot of vintage effects, some of which are a pain to open to check/change batteries. I got the Battometer so I'd know how much power was left in my pedals without having to open them up. Somehow the Battometer figures out how many hours are left in the pedal, which is brilliant! I used to throw away a lot of batteries that were "half-good" according to my old tester, since I never knew what that meant. Now that I know the hours left, I haven't had to change them as much and it's one less thing to worry about.

                        Works on Pedals not Guitars

I bought this to check the battery levels on my active basses and a couple of guitars and for each of them (six) I get the same PL6 Plug Error message. I tried it on some effects pedals and it works fine here but since I use power supplies for my pedals this really isn't of much use to me. If you are looking to check pedals this may work but I would advise staying away from it for guitars and basses. It's a good idea though and hopefully someone will come up with something that works.
