I read the good reviews, loved the price and ordered a few sets. But when on my Takamine they thinned out the sound like no other strings I have tried. It was so bad I lost any inspiration to even pick up my guitar. No depth from the 4th, 5th and 6th strings. No sustain. They made my guitar sound terrible. I got over the feeling of wasting a new set and replaced them later the same day. Testing the theory "you get what you pay for" I put on Martin Lifespan SP .013's. MSP7200. The difference is night and day. Tone. Resonance. Fullness. Volume. That's what I wanted. Bottom line: You can buy inexpensive/cheap strings and your guitar will sound that way. Or you can put some money into quality strings and enjoy your guitar at it's best. That's my experience anyway.

Comments about Martin M140 80/20 Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

Over all, I dont think any one would be upset buying these, I enjoy the flexibility of the strings, tight low end on the wound strings notes are clear and precise, and crispy and clear on the highs. I noticed you didnt have to attack the strings to get output and harmonics are easy to attain.
Martin by any stretch is quality, but I was skeptical when I noticed the price of there strings, I was going to string a rogue guitar I bought for my sons and myself And too keep there hand and thoughts off of my martin DM which I protect viciously like a rabid dog. To cut to the chase, these strings made a 69.95 (on special) rogue Acoustic sounds unbelievably good and I was so impressed with the quality that by purchasing four packs I felt I had just struck gold. I dont know why they are so in-expensive but they are as good or better than the top brands I am accustomed to buying.. They are now my favorite string for my acoustic guitars, all three of them!
for the price they are the no brainer, good quality, good price.
best value for acoustic strings anywhere.

Comments about Martin M140 80/20 Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

Whenever I purchase an acoustic guitar, I always purchase the Martin 140 light strings, I think they are easy on the fingers and produce a nice crisp clear sound. and it doesn't take alot of stretching to keep them in tune.

Comments about Martin M140 80/20 Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I have tried almost all strings and have come to the conslusion that Martin M140 or M540s are the best buy and best sounding of the Martin strings. If you have several guitars and change the strings often you will search for the longest lasting best sounding and most for the buck...These are it! buy a bunch of them...

            Great value.
These are great strings. I play about 50 times a year and restring after every gig. Elixer type strings are cute, but a waste of money for me. I sweat, spill, and beat my strings. I also use these in the studio. See jasonswensen.com for audio samples. All the acoustic guitars feature these strings via a Martin guitars, sm81, Neve 1073 or Api 512. The ones with the silk wrap are nice too, but I only buy them on sale. Have no fear. These are great for the money. If they don't sound nice on your guitar, get a new guitar. Martins, Gibsons, some Taylors.....

Comments about Martin M140 80/20 Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

To me it all boils down to personal preference. I've been using these for over two decades. I buy in bulk & change frequently. I always carry an extra set "just in case."
Musician's Friend always has them at a fair price. Of course if everyone liked the same thing there wouldn't be any need to have such a wide variety to choose from. I found something I liked and I've stayed with it.

Comments about Martin M140 80/20 Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

After years of trying many different strings, I've mainly used Dean Markley Vintage Bronze for the last little while as my go-to acoustic guitar strings because I knew what to expect from them. Recently I decided to try these Martin strings, and I'm very impressed. Very crisp and clean sound with rich bass, without being muddy. I also like the fact that my finger movements (like sliding, pull-offs, etc) are quite audible with these strings. They also keep their tone for a decent amount of time. Overall, I have to say I'll be sticking with Martin strings for a while.

I have used these strings on a vintage D-28 for years now. Occasionally, I'll try something different, but I always come back home to Martin light gauge 80/20 bronze. I'm a thumb-style player, and these strings give the perfect blend of clear highs and solid bass. Yes, Elixirs last longer, but you can't beat the value of these strings.

I love the tones I get from "light" strings on my acoustic guitars . Even when I decide to plug in and amplify the sound.. I still get great response from these strings.
If you happen to be one who uses a "HARD" pick or play with a "HEAVY HAND".. You may want to go with at least a "MEDIUM" gauge string.. a heavy hand and a hard pick can and will, stretch and break strings
