Comments about Martin MSP7700 SP Lifespan Phosphor Bronze Baritone Acoustic Guitar Strings:
I build guitars for a living, and that has included a lot of baritones. Until these strings were introduced I really had no coated string options for customers wanting 27" scale acoustic guitars tuned C-C, 28.5" scale guitars tuned B-B (2 and 2.5 steps below standard EADGBE), and scales in between. For these scales and tunings, this set has virtually the same tension (about 185 lbs) and feel of a standard Martin-style acoustic guitar with medium gauge strings, and has the same balance of tone across strings as any good standard set. These strings are also well matched to Martin's J-28 and their Pete Seegar 27.5" scale baritone guitars tuned C-C or drop Bb. The coated baritone sets from Elixer and D'Addario's EXP line are far too heavy for these scales and tunings for most players, so the Martin SP baritone set is a very welcome addition to my arsenal of string choices.
One should be careful when installing these however as they have a tendency to break easily. If not for that I would have given them 5 stars.
