Again, this stand LOOKS nice and sturdy, especially for the money. But the foam on it destroys the finish on certain guitars, So, therefore, I'm going with all 'Terrible' ratings. Selling this is like manufacturing a golf bag that has a metal-corroding liner!
Okay, these were listed for $4.99 apiece. A veritable steal, so I ordered four of them to have around the house for guests and to have an instrument at hand wherever I happened to be. I got the stands, they look very nice for the money, and perfect for my need. Or so I thought. On each stand is a little tag that states, "Attention: Not recommended for guitars with nitro cellulous lacquer finish. The material of foam might cause unexpected chemical reaction that may deteriorate the finish". Great. So, I called my local music store and spoke to their guitar guy. Apparently, there's no easy way to tell if your instrument HAS a finish like this. He also said that this type of foam makes marks on the neck and body that look like burn marks. So, I'm not about to set any of my guitars on them! His suggestion was to get some tape or other type of cover for the rubber parts of these stands. If I do that, the instrument will likely slip and slide off the stand.
This is the music equivalent of one of those ties you can buy on the street in any big city. Sure, you're getting a low cost article, but the caveat is that's going to be ugly or unusable. The money I'm out on these stands is NOT going to break me, or anyone else for that matter. But I want to warn the rest of you before you leave your D-28 sitting on one of them.

I've been buying these exact same stands for years. They're built great for the price and they work just fine. I've probably owned 20 or more of them without a single issue. They're stable, they never fall over, no guitar of mine has ever fallen off of one, and anyone who claims that they're junk is probably either nitpicking or has unreasonably high demands for such a simple piece of equipment.

As others have noted, though, the one downside to these (and many other stands that cost considerably more, as well) is that the foam padding causes a chemical reaction with nitro-finished guitars and will slowly, but surely, eat the finish off of them. If your guitar is poly-finished (like the vast majority of guitars in the world are), this stand is fine for your guitar. If you're not sure whether or not your guitar is nitro-finished, then it's pretty safe to say it's not. However, if your finish is yellowed and has a lot of hairline cracks all over it, then you may have a nitro finish. Nitro is mostly found on vintage guitars or expensive ones built for tone junkies. Those sort of guitars don't come cheap, so if you spent less than four figures on your guitar, I would trust it to this stand. If in doubt, though, it might be wise to find out for sure.

For all other finishes, this is a great stand and the price simply can't be beat. Two thumbs way up on this one.

Just like everything else, things change. Historically, I've bought Musicians Friend guitar stands and for my home studio was satisfied with function/value.
But the stand I received this time has been reengineered (product photo appears to be the old model). I think that the tublar metal frame is of a thinner gauge and most of all is NOT Stable! The bottom hanger of the unit now engages with the upright through a hole in the upright. The old model had a sleeve that extended about 2" that engaged with the bottom hanger. But the biggest difference is that the support legs are very short. If you walk by and brush against the unit get ready to catch your guitar. The sale price is the only thing that's keeping it here and the fact I bought it for visiting musicians. MOST DEFINITELY DON'T USE IN A TRAFFIC AREA!

I do not have a thousand dollar guitar so this is fine for me, but for anyone with a guitar with any real worth, value or sentiment I would suggest something else. I like the idea of the foam, it really makes me feel safe putting my guitar against it because I know it wont get scratched BUT before I even placed my acoustic into it it felt top heavy. Thinking the guitar would weigh it down, I placed it in and it does not feel sturdy. It is stable enough as to where it will stay put if it is untouched but if you were to catch a foot on it, or say, accidentally hit it when your vacuuming....it will most likely fall forward. I don't think I want to wait for that day to come so I will probably spend a little more cash for something a little more stable.

I use this guitar stand instead of putting my guitar in the case all the time. It makes my guitar easily accessible and so I play it more often. I also use it when I play several instruments at a session.

I've purchased several of these in the past when they have been on sale. They have never been safe for nitro finishes but other than that they have been fine for an inexpensive stand. The newest version is a far cry from what use to be an acceptable stand. The back leg once 6 inches long is now only 4! Far too short to hold a guitar safely and down right dangerous for a bass. The gage of tubing is substantially smaller making it even less stable. The side legs have lost an inch and a ¼ in length further destabilizing the stand. I know guys that would buy these in bulk for guitar shows. I wouldn't put even the cheapest guitar on one of these now.

This is the first stand I've bought for my electric since buyiing it 3 years ago other than the one I got when I first got it.
I wasn't sure what to expect, buying it online. A picture really does only say so much. Because of this, I'd like to write a detailed product description.
Pros: It is heavy. Lots of metal for a cheap stand. Sturdy and secure. Has a safety catch at the top to keep from falling out. Sits my electric guitar or bass straight up; you don't have to worry about the bass head hitting or leaning against the wall.
Cons: The ONLY con is that it is not compact or foldable. Not ideal for touring/gigging. Since I almost only use it at home, it's perfect for me. Guitars look great on it!
Bottom line: If the above sounds good, buy it. No regrets.

The stand knocks over easy. center of ballance is too high. Not adjustable. They give you a note after you buy it,that the foam reacts to lacquer
finish THEY SHOULD GIVE THIS WARNING BEFORE YOU BUY IT. Most top end guitars ARE lacquer finish. SO I keep my poly-u finish guitars in them and face them towards the wall so they don't fall.

It worked fine for about a year until the neck holder broke off. I repaired it (now the join is stronger than when I first got it!) and it works fine now. One other gripe is that it does not transport very well.I would recommend an A-frame stand. I have one of those and it is much sturdier and far more collapsible.P.S. Take serious heed to the warning in the product description. If your instrument has a nitrocellulose finish, do not buy this stand! You don't want know what neoprene does to it, but it is not pretty.

By the nature of their design, tripods are all unstable, so musicians who do a lot of "bumping" of their axes during gigs need not read this review. These are the tallest, most robust and erect tripod stands I've ever seen or handled. They don't come down as far as some of the more expensive models, so traveling with them may be bothersome, but it would take a sledge hammer or a Mack truck to damage them. I've read some reviews placed a couple of years ago about them falling appart, but I suspect the reviewers either had the wrong product...or MG listened to the complaints and fixed the problem. I have 3 stands by 3 other vendors, and even the sturdiest of those is a "pouf" in comparison. They all have flimsier pipe, and weak joints. The best looking one cants to the right, but they were all twice the price of this Musician's gear item. In my opinion, this is MGs best product. Get a BUNCH of them for your whole guitar collection!

Perfectly good stand at a low low price. The only thing I didnt like was the foam rubber touching the nitro finish on my Les Paul (I've read that prolonged contact with rubber can discolor the nitrocelluloce finish).

To remedy this I got a cheap pair of 100% cotton ankle socks and and slid them over the foam rubber bits. Problem solved. No more rubber touching my LP!

this thing really doesnt have any features.. Its steel and foam rubber construction. It holds your guitar when youre not playing it.
Plenty good for the price.. really good in fact. If you just need something to hold your guitar this will work fine.. The rivets are solid and the adjustment knob works fine.. No not the highest grade construction imaginable, but plenty good for the price and purpose.
Good value. hard to beat in fact. Go to any brick and mortar shop and find a similar stand for less twice this price... cant go wrong

This stand is a great bargain. It will get the job done, and is as sturdy as my a FrestRest HT1010, but the price difference really makes up for that. The quality of the materials differs, but it really doesn't matter much to me. It's very simple to construct/deconstruct (>1 minute) If you have a compulsion to make sure everything is symmetrical, then Flying V guitars do cause the bottom guitar holder to tilt slightly right or left. Though still keeping it off the ground, and supported. Overall, if you're low on cash, this will get the job done.

Opinion already stated
Stand secures my guitar. It was easy to assemble - and it takes me twice as long as anyone else to assemble anything. It was also the best price on the internet! So why not a "10?" While it is unobtrusive, it is not elegant like a wood stand. But a wood stand's price is $300.+, not $13.99.
For the price, it is excellent!
Best price on internet, and two days later it was a couple of dollars less!

I bought one of these stands a year ago and the quality was very good. I just bought a second one the other day and let me say it is not made by the same company. Iam not sure who is making this stand now for musicians friend but it is not the same as before. I know it is hard to argue with the price but I would just save your money and get one that cost a little more. Here is the few problems. The rear most leg is now shorter, making the guitar angle back more (instead of setting more upright). Second the upper part that holds neck is not as tall as old one, this does not cause any issues but it does not look as good as old one. Hope this helps everyone.

Decent. I've had several of them for about a year and a half now and I finally broke one just a couple of days ago.
Can't beat it for the price. I've ordered another one to replace the one I broke. There are probably more durable stands out there, but they're proabably a lot more expensive, too.

I would go for the more expensive rack next time. This one is kinda lightweight, and for a few deniro's more i would buy something a little more substantial, However if you're on a budget, this would do nicely.
