I happen to be one of those Grandparents; who's Grandkids just seem to love Grandpaw's musical instruments,so no matter how expensive or cheap they may be..instruments need protection!! I purchased this case for my Rogue "A" style Mandolin (which I also purchased at Musiciansfriend.com). I was amazed at how well it fitted to my Mandolin. The inside padding is much thicker and softer than I imagined from the pictures. The lid fits nice and snug against the bridge, and the material is soft enough to form itself to the shape of the top without too much pressure. This case even has a keyed lock on the center latch(that helps keep the kids out of it when you're not looking).
I would NOT recommend this case for the "F" style mandolin..the body would be a little too wide at the top. And of course if you have an expensive Mandolin ,like a Washburn or Gibson, You're gonna want to get a case specially made for that Brand Name instrument,(the big boys always have cases specially built to fit their instruments)
If you're a beginner or slightly experienced player..remember..You always look more professional when you show up with your instruments in a nice looking case...people wonder what ya got in there and can't wait till you open up the case.

My cheap Rogue A-style mandolin fits real tight, which is OK, but the depth is too shallow. When the lid is closed, it put pressure on the mandolin's bridge. I hope this doesn't cause the mandolin body to crack. I'm willing to chance it and see what happens.

Got this for several students. In every instance we have to hold our breath while squeezing the mandolin into the case then again while smashing the lid shut. Clasps work ok.

Comments about Musician's Gear Hardshell A-Style Mandolin Case:

I purchased this case for my Fender FM-53S. It is not a good fit. When closed. it puts pressure on the bridge. Perhaps this case is for flat-top mandolins instead opf arch-top. I'll be looking for another case for my Fender. The case does seem sturdy and is well padded on the inside. I see no problem with this case protecting an instrument that actually fits it properly.

Comments about Musician's Gear Hardshell A-Style Mandolin Case:

A very nice case, but built too small. The Musician's Friend Rogue mandolin does not fit in easily, had to force it. No damage yet cramming the Rogue mando in yet, but the case should be built bigger to accommodate the Musician's Friend instrument.

This is a decent case for the money. Overall it is built really well. One word of caution if you are buying this for the 45 buck rogue A style its a tight fit.

Comments about Musician's Gear Hardshell A-Style Mandolin Case:

Our Washburn M1S "A" style mandolin was a little too thick for the case depth. The case lid put pressure on the instrument's bridge. This might improve over time when the case padding takes the instrument's shape, but it is not a great situation.

We purchased the same brand case for a ukulele and it is fine. It provides reasonable protection with no quality or fit issues. The mandolin case had many of the issues noted by other reviewers. The latches were misaligned, with the plating peeling off. The lid was warped and the outside vinyl covering was misapplied. Allowing for the low price, the quality was still poor.

Musician's Friend was great about exchanging it for the Washburn case specific to our instrument. Yes, we had to pay about twice the price, but the fit should be exact with fewer manufacturing issues.

I am an experienced guitar player. On a whim I bought a Rogue A style mandolin to noodle around on. I always like to have cases for my instruments so I needed a budget case for the mandolin. The Rogue mandolin fits snugly into this well built case. The case is sturdy and well lined inside. Great quality for this price point. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I ordered this mandolin case for my A-style mandolin. It didn't fit! the stuffing around the edge was very thick and bulgy. The mandolin could just be wedged into it if the strap was taken off. That's not even the bad stuff. When I finally got my mandolin wedged into the case I put down the lid. It didn't close! The stuffing was so thick that it remained propped open about an inch and a half. I wasn't going to squash my instrument to try and close it. I promptly remove my mandolin, and called for my return receipt. I was able to get forty d o l l a r s back. My recommendations would be to not buy this case unless you want to loose five d o l l a r s.

Comments about Musician's Gear Hardshell A-Style Mandolin Case:

I'm surprisingly happy with this case, and that's disregarding the good price. As I read in other reviews, before buying it, the weight of the case doesn't shift when the top is lifted/opened; it stays in place. The latches don't seem flimsy, the case seems to protect the mandolin, and my Kentucky KM-150 fits perfectly. There is room for several small items (e.g., picks and a clip-on tuner) in a small compartment, and then plenty of room in another exposed one. I highly recommend this case.

Comments about Musician's Gear Hardshell A-Style Mandolin Case:

I bought the mandolin case for a clients cheapo A-style mandolin.
Pro-It arrived much faster than I had expected. Come to think of it.. the shipping was free. Anyway, the case is nice with the hard-shell outside and the soft cushion inside. The mandolin fit perfect with no slop. The latches lined up well and stayed latched (no loose latches). I thought the price was reasonable at roughly 40.
Con- The top of the bridge was a bit higher than the top of the open case which caused the top of the case to rest on the bridge in a closed position.
Overall- This is a good case for a starter instrument. I gave a "Good" rating for the price and free shipping.

Comments about Musician's Gear Hardshell A-Style Mandolin Case:

I just received the case yesterday. I am very happy with it so far. I am a professional bass player but recently decided to try mandolin. I bought an entry level instrument (Ibanez M510E-BS) and I wanted a good case for daily use and some travel. This case is perfect for that job and was a great price. I had read reviews and they were correct that it is a snug fit and you may have to work the lid a little to get it closed but I feel it is providing the level of protection I need. I would fly with it in an overhead bin but might not check it with baggage. The internal compartment for accessories such as picks and capos is a bit small. My strap would mot fit in the compartment but does fit rolled up under the headstock. If you have a very high end instrument you might need a more heavy duty case but for day to day use it suits my needs perfectly. Am pleasantly surprised.

Comments about Musician's Gear Hardshell A-Style Mandolin Case:

This is a good case for the money. But. With my Ibanez 510 it fits very snug on the sides wiich is OK but I did not like the pressure it put on the bridge when closing the top. So I took a sharp razor knife and cut the bottom material close to the side wall bottom enough to take out the round piece of foam that was under the material. Then put the material back in place and now it closes perfectly with no pressure on the bridge.

Comments about Musician's Gear Hardshell A-Style Mandolin Case:

Nice mandolin case but definitely too tight for the Gretsch Old Town A Model. The arch top and bridge require more room than this case offers. Probably a great deal for anyone with a small body or flat top mandolin.
