I bought this a few months ago. I found the 2nd tier covers the 1st tier. SO - I FOUND A GREAT (and free) SOLUTION. Here it is:Remove the right and left swing-arms from their respective posts that insert into the X-stand part. Turn them backwards, and swap them right-for-left. Then tighten them up. Remove the rubber stoppers from both ends of the 2nd tier pipes and swap the stoppers to that the stopper with the nub is in the front so the kbd doesn't slide off. Works like a friggin' charm and gives you a a perfect setup!!!! :-)Enjoy.

I've owned this stand for 2 years. I use an SP88 on the bottom and a Korg N5 on top. The majority of my use has been while standing. Adjusting the 2nd tier has always been very limited. The angle adjustment works very well but your keyboard will sit at one height, no adjustment. When I play standing it is not stable with the 88 key on the bottom. I have recently started using the stand seated but because of the length of the second tier bar insert, it does not go low enough for a comfortable seated playing height, although stability does improve. The second tier spacing/stability bar is a VERY necessary part just waiting to be lost in a hectic set-up/load out environment. For infrequent use and light weight keyboards the stand is adequate. An SP88 is not that heavy but it doesn't handle it well. I don't recommend it for heavier keyboards or if you set up and tear down frequently.

Comments about On-Stage Deluxe Heavy Duty X 2-Tier Keyboard Stand:

Great heavy duty base, but very frustrating to level the 2nd tier. I use the 2nd tier for a laptop and it is next to impossible to get a straight, level position out of the upper bars. The front edges don't line up and because the angle adjustment is notched you can't get things leveled in any direction. If the angle adjustment was infinite instead of notched that might do it. Too bad since the base level is built to hold anything and is very stable.

Comments about On-Stage Deluxe Heavy Duty X 2-Tier Keyboard Stand:

I've been using this keyboard stand for two years now, gigging 90+ nights a year. That's twice every weekend, setting it up, tearing it down... Initially, I was worried about the knobs stripping and such, but so far they've stood up. It's extremely portable as well - nobody grumbles about helping to carry my stand anymore. Only drawback is that the upper keyboard is a bit forward and high for my liking, but you can get adjustable, or you can make do. So far, I've made do, and very well. I mount 80+ pounds of keyboards on this stand and it never lets me down, never wiggles or wobbles. Great value.

Comments about On-Stage Deluxe Heavy Duty X 2-Tier Keyboard Stand:

Plusses- Great price- Clutch adjustment... suh-weet!!- Sturdy construction- Makes a great back up keyboard standMinuses:- Center bar has a small plastic (internal) piece that needs to be glued in place so it won't pop out when the upper horizontal (2-piece) bar is separated. - Limited amount of adjustment for the upper tier, unless you like to be "hidden" onstage (don't they call this an "on Stage" stand?).- I use 2 relatively light keyboard controllers, and assorted keyboards for the bottom tier depending on the gig. Having a heavy keyboard on this stand balancing off-center (tpiiing over) is never an issue with me. The OVERHANG of the upper keyboard not only blocks the lower key, but relegates the keyboardist from being seen.I normally have 2 keyboards in a LOW-PROFILE (below the "navel" level so to speak) so I can be more visible & the audience can see the fingers a-flyin' when I play. I hate setups that make a keyboadist "hide" behind their ax(es). If you are that kind of person too.... well you might think twice. I use "Invisable Support" keyboard stands because they do not distract away from the keyboards or myself (too bad they are not made anymore... find em' on eBay).** OVERALL, BUY THIS IF YOUR NOT PICKY ABOUT THE UPPER LEVEL SETTINGS, or being hidden from your audience. I've owed many stands, and this one is still a good one in my book.

lack of adjustments, returning this unit

      By Dan-uCCaH

      from Undisclosed

Comments about On-Stage Deluxe Heavy Duty X 2-Tier Keyboard Stand:

Tried to use this for my Yamaha ES90S on the bottom and KX76 on the top. The top tier has virtually no adjustments, and when the 2 keyboards were placed on the rack, the top one completely covered up the bottom one making it impossible to play the keyboard on the bottom or reach any of the buttons. Also, the overall height adjustment was not low enough, as it doesn't take into account the height of the keyboard itself and thus can't be placed so that the keyboard is at a proper level when seated.

Comments about On-Stage Deluxe Heavy Duty X 2-Tier Keyboard Stand:

The newly-designed top tier is much more of a pain to set up and take down than the old all-in-one two-tier stand. And if some well-meaning roadie doesn't take it apart just right, a very important little part will fall out of the tie bar, rendering it useless.

What should have been easy to follow instructions turned into a two hour cursing fest. You are supposed to match the colored stickers and tighten the screws. All of the parts were mislabeled, so after fitting pieces that seemingly went together, you had a crooked mess. Once I ignored the stickers, set up was easy.

Comments about On-Stage Deluxe Heavy Duty X 2-Tier Keyboard Stand:

Surprisingly solid. Only negative I might add is that the stand requires removal of the middle support bar, then loosening and folding down the arms of the second tier in order to fold up and transport the stand. Not a major factor, though, as it takes less than a minute. Overall, exactly what we needed at a very fair price.

Comments about On-Stage Deluxe Heavy Duty X 2-Tier Keyboard Stand:

The main part of the stand is perfect. It is rugged and the height adjustment is very conveniently located near the top of the stand where you need your hands to be during that process. My gripe is with the 2nd tier. You WILL lose parts. The only way to transport it safely it to never remove it from the base stand. I've used this stand maybe 4 times and have lost small parts and had to JB WELD the one of the threads back into the cross bar at the gig. I run a professional backline company and that is unacceptable especially for a nearly brand new product. In summary, Base stand = Excellent, 2nd tier = don't even use for a bird perch.

If it was just the bottom level, I'd give five stars. It is easy to setup, light, and much sturdier than I thought it would be. Also, good value. The bad news is the second tier. It hangs way too far forward and is very hard to get level. Doesn't feel nearly as sturdy as the bottom. I guess A and F average to C.

The 2nd Tier hangs way to far over the first tier, I play standing if that makes any difference, the 2nd tier is less stable than my old Axe stand 2nd tier. I give it a 4.0 because the stand itself is awesome, and more stable than any stand I have used including the V stands. I found that burrowing out the holes in my old Axe tier I am able to use them instead. Side note, the 2nd tier was not level, not usable at all, tossed out.

Comes in pieces, but assembly is intuitive and we'll explained and marked--took about 15 minutes. The stand is a bit heavier than I imagined, but still very portable. Mostly, I was impressed how sturdy it is. Will easily handle any keyboard you'll likely be carrying around. Second tier is also very strong. Hand clutch at the top for easy adjusting of height is essential for me for an X-stand and this one works well. Liked so much I got me another one!

Comments about On-Stage Deluxe Heavy Duty X 2-Tier Keyboard Stand:

We sent our first stand back because the instructions showed the clutch (which adjusts the height up/down) as a disc on the front of the x-bracing. After about 2wks the replacement arrived and it was exactly the same as the first one. It was at that point I realized that the design had been updated, but not the instructions. The new design had the clutch as a trigger on the top of one of the legs. Once I figured that out it was easy to assemble. The initial confusion was probably compounded because of poor packing. Both shipment arrived floating around in a big box that didn't have enough packing. The interior product package was broken open and the peices (screws, nuts, wrenches) were loose in the packing box so I assumed the pictured clutch broke off in transit.

The stand itself is very sturdy. I am not using heavy keyboards on it (Yamaha MOXF8 on the bottom and Korg 707 on top), but it feels like it could handle a lot more weight easily. It is very easy to adjust the angle of the top tier and they have included handy plugs on a loop to use if you take the top tier off at any point. Overall well designed and thought through for use in your home or studio.

The only criticism I have is that if you want to collapse it to transport it, you have to remove the center support for the top tier in order for it to collapse. It is relatively easy to unscrew and remove, but not a seemless collapse.

Comments about On-Stage Deluxe Heavy Duty X 2-Tier Keyboard Stand:

I purchased these stands as a 2-tier package. I'm mechanically-minded and I found these crazy-hard to assemble. None of the arms come attached, which is hard to understand since those are permanent and not adjustable. The holes in the lower bar of the first stand were not drilled evenly, so the metal had to be re-drilled. For some reason the arms where you have to attach the 2nd tier have plugs in them. The instructions simply say to "remove" them. They do not unscrew and any attempt to pop them out made them shred into smaller and smaller pieces. It took nearly a half hour just to get them out, and the pieces are sharp, so I ended up cutting my fingers in several places. If this comes as a 2-tier package with replacement plugs, I cannot understand why the plugs are there in the first place. With the next stand, I moved to my fully-equipped shop, drilled out the holes with an electric drill, and also drilled holes into the plugs and ripped them out with needle nose pliers. If you don't have those tools, I don't know what to tell you. The support bar for the 2nd tier only goes in one way, but they don't tell you that. That doesn't take as long to figure out, but what is the point of instructions if you don't save your customers time? I think the manufacturer could do a lot better than this, especially for the price.

Comments about On-Stage Deluxe Heavy Duty X 2-Tier Keyboard Stand:

As I said before, but now 10 years using this stand: I've bought MANY other stands - standtastic, quik lok, apex, and on and on. Nothing is a quick to set up or take down, and it takes up very little space in the car (about as much as a thin 61-key board). I keep coming back to this keyboard stand.
The upper tier is ridiculous. Too high, too far forward. Another reviewer mentioned reversing some of the mounts, but I actually removed the upper supports, cut down the posts, drilled new holes, and mounted them lower. The upper keyboard was still too far forward, so I removed the front end "keyboard stops", cut the upper arms back 3", and replaced the stops (the little vertical posts which keep your keyboard from sliding off). Worked like a charm. I also purchased a second upper tier which I left unmolested for those times when I'm using a "thicker" lower board (i.e. SK2).

Cons: It IS an X-Stand, but many years and hundreds of gigs later it's never failed. Also, as with other x-stands you're going to bark your shins on the lower X a few times until you learn (I have two CC pedals and two sustain pedals I use and they fit underneath no problem). There are other, sexier, more expensive stands out there, but for the value, durability, and ease of use, this is it.

Sturdy, but could use more adjustability

Comments about On-Stage Deluxe Heavy Duty X 2-Tier Keyboard Stand:

This baby is mega-sturdy, and at the height I adjust it to for playing my Hammond SK1, it just fits with a couple inches to spare on each side, but it doesn't leave a lot of extra room for the footswitch and expression pedal, but it's still manageable. I assembled this very carefully per the instructions, but it's still about a half inch higher on one side than on the other, confirmed by placing a carpenters level on it. One half inch isn't much, and it's still totally usable as is, but it would be better if there were some way to adjust it +/- so it's level.
