I love the short scale of the Gibson bass, but the sound was killing me. Way too dull and boring. I was planning on completely gutting it and putting all new pickups and electronics in it, which probably would've involved busting out the Dremel. I'm glad I started with the bridge becuase it brings all new life to the bass. Definitely a much brighter sound with more sustain. Even works great for slapping now, which it absolutely could not handle before.

One additional sidenote: When it arrived from MusiciansFriend, it was missing one of the screws and spring (the one that holds the saddle to the bridge and adjusts length). It wasn't in the box and fell out and is probably just sitting on the ground in some warehouse. Honest mistake, but I was worried I was going to have to return the whole thing and wait another few weeks to get the replacement. I gave Hipshot a call and told them my problem. The entire call was under 2 minutes and in less than a week (from US to Germany!) I received a whole bag full of a variety of screws and springs, "to make sure I got the perfect fit", at no cost to me. I was blown away at their customer service. Becuase of this experience I will definitely buy many more Hipshot products!
Bought the gold one and stuck it onto my Gibson SG Faded. Incredibly easy to install. Destrung, took out the old one, screwed in the new one, restrung, adjusted saddle and bridge pickup heights and was playing again all in less than 10 minutes. The abilty to adjust the saddles both vertically and horizontally is a great feature.
Perfect retrofit. Seems like it will be indestructable. Doesn't look like the gold will fade over time, but we'll see. It will definitely last. This is my first Hipshot as I've always upgraded with Leo Quan Badasses in the past, but was just looking for a simple fix with no routing for the SG. The Hipshot is as good, if not better, quality.
I put off buying it for months due to the higher price, but once I got it I was glad I did. It's worth every penny.

Since I've been playing, I usually end up tweaking my basses. From my '67 Fender telecaster bass to My '86 Spector. Recently I purchased a Epi Thunderbird in Silverburst. The electronics were replaced and that helped the sound ,but it needed something more. I couldn't get the action lowered and the string tention was a bit too tight for me. So I decided to try the Hipshot Supertone. Yes it is pricey, but well worth it. What a huge difference in every aspect !! Very easy to install. Just three bolts, and away you go ! Right away the tone was solid and even. String tention was great, and the action could go as low as I wanted. I was really amazed. One minor drawback , is an occasional rattle form a saddle spring. Other than that, a great product that makes a difference.

Comments about Hipshot SuperTone Gibson 3-Point Bass Bridge:

While the Gibson bridge works, it is somewhat limiting. Doesn't allow individual string adjustment and can take some patience to adjust intonation. It is functional though.

The Hipshot supertone is clearly superior in build quality and functionality. It works like other hipshots and is similar to most modern bridges. When installing Just be careful not to over-tighten the screws as you could possibly spin the threaded anchors in your bass.

Didn't notice any major sound improvements as some people have. But this is an excellent and easy upgrade to my SG bass.

Perfect Tonal Upgrade for T-Bird Bass

      By Bones

      from Santa Cruz, CA

      See all my reviews

Comments about Hipshot SuperTone Gibson 3-Point Bass Bridge:

If you have an Epi or Gibson T-bird bass this is a "must have" upgrade. It will totally improve the tone and sustain and get rid of the weak stock bridge that sits on 3 bolts and has those little wobbly bridge pieces that are barely held in. Also - with this bass you have the bridge pieces sitting far enough from where the string ball ends go in that you no longer will have any issues with the lower string winding or cloth covering sitting on the bridge piece. Plus, it looks so much nicer and cleaner than the stock bridge. You will be "amazed" at the improvement in tone and sustain. This is the one upgrade you really need to do.
Machined from solid aluminum - this bridge has solid bridge pieces that keep the strings in place and won't slide around or wiggle like the ones that come on the T-bird bass. Also, the string spacing can be adjusted and individual bridge pieces are height adjustable. This bridge gives you much more intonation and action adjustment than the stock one. And its a solid mass that bolts directly onto your bass so it really adds sustain and tone.
Very nicely machined and solid. All the adjustment screws were easy - nothing frozen or sticking. The whole thing is perfection. I got the black and it's a nicely finished semi-gloss black that fits in with my other black hardware on my Epi T-Bird.
A little pricy for a replacement bridge - but still a great value. You will be amazed at the improvement in your tone and sound. I would pay twice what they are asking (but don't tell them that - they'll want to increase the price).

I installed this bridge on my Epiphone Thunderbird Classic Pro. The bridge installed with ease. I do not notice much of a change in tone but intonation and action is much easier to adjust over the standard bridge. If I purchased another Epiphone bass with a three point bridge, I would replace it with this solid chunk of metal.

Comments about Hipshot SuperTone Gibson 3-Point Bass Bridge:

The hipshot Supertone bridge is an excellent upgrade for my Epiphone Thunderbird Classic Pro bass. I had problems fitting it initially because one of the ferrules pulled out of the bass body when I screwed the bridge down onto the bass. I solved this by applying some adhesive to the ferrule and refitting it by lightly tapping it back into place with a hammer. I then reduced the gap between the top of the ferrule and the recess in the underside of the bridge with a washer (one per side). This stops the bridge anchor bolts from pulling the ferrules out of the bridge and instead snugs the bridge down onto the bass body as desired. You might have to experiment with the right thickness washer - but I got lucky straight away. You may also have to trim down the saddle internation screws by 5mm to enable the strings to be internated correctly (I did). All that done I now have an excellent bass with an equally excellent and fully adjustable bridge. Plus, Hipshot provide excellent customer service.

Comments about Hipshot SuperTone Gibson 3-Point Bass Bridge:

Big improvement in sustain and tone. Unlike the stock 3-point, EB-3L bridge it replaced, the saddles don't wobble and waste string energy. Very important. Solid contact to body helps sustain also, for sure. Easy to set up. Only thing I ran into is that some strings have the ball end wrapped up almost an inch from the ball, which can just about make it to the saddle, depending on how you must set saddle positions for intonation. Not a flaw, but be aware of the string's manfacturing style, in this regard.

Comments about Hipshot SuperTone Gibson 3-Point Bass Bridge:

I recently got a Epiphone EB3 for a good price. One of the things I always hated about Gibson's were those 3 point bridges. Why Gibson didn't ever come up with a bridge like this I'll never know. I purchased this bridge. It came. It was a direct fit. I changed strings and did a complete setup and dialed this in. It is so wonderful to be able to set string height and intonation on individual strings like every one else can. This bridge looks like it came with the bass. It is beautiful and functional as well. If you have a 3 point bridge buy this and throw that thing in the garbage like I did. You won't be sorry and you will never look back. Epiphone and Gibson sure missed the mark when they refused to go with a bridge like this on their basses! This bridge is simply excellent!

Bought two- a black one for my white Epi T-Bird Classic Pro, and a chrome one for my Vintage Sunburst Epi Classic Pro. Removal of stock tailpieces took longer than installation of new ones. Intonation was almost perfect on both Hipshots right out of the box. Drastic improvement in tone, action and intonation.

While it is a good product and easy to install, it requires some tweaking for it work as it is supposed to. Although there are no instructions sent it is easy to install, however on my Epiphone EB-3 I needed to fabricate a shim to go under the bridge to facilitate proper string height as well as find a longer bolt for the E string saddle to allow proper intonation. Both of these items should be included with the bridge as I am not the first to have encountered these problems. Once I addressed these 2 issues it is a great bridge and much easier for setup than the stock 3 point bridge which is rather archaic (I wonder why Gibson/ Epiphone still use it). I would recommend it but with the proviso that you will need to be able to fabricate or purchase the extras needed.

Comments about Hipshot SuperTone Gibson 3-Point Bass Bridge:

After purchasing a 2013 Gibson Thunderbird, I was in the process of setting it up and adjusting the standard Gibson 3 Point Bridge, when the studs for bridge pulled right out of the body. After regluing them and letting it sit for a few days, I decided to see if there was a better bridge out there to replace Gibson's 3 Point. I stumbled upon the Hipshot Supertone accidentally. After checking out the reviews, I ordered one. When it came in, I took it to my shop and installed it on the T-Bird. Installation was super easy. It installed into the existing studs and sits directly upon the body. The mounting screws use an allen wrench to screw them in, instead of a screwdriver. Intonation was quick and easy to do and I think it actually improved the sound of the bass (I have another T-Bird that still has the 3 Point bridge).
Hipshot knocked this one right out of the park. The only thing that might bother anyone is that on the T-Bird, the lower edges of the bridge hang over the raised neck thru center about 1/16 of an inch on each side. Other than that, it is the PERFECT replacement for an original Gibson 3 Point Bass Bridge. I highly recommend this bridge for any serious bassist who uses any Gibson/Epiphone bass with the 3 Point Bridge. Peace out!

Comments about Hipshot SuperTone Gibson 3-Point Bass Bridge:

I bought this hipshot bridge to replace the one on my Epiphone EB3. What a difference this bridge has made in Tuning and intonation. I got the Chrome bridge and it was flawless. My bass Tech even remarked that it was a great improvement over the old one. Best thing is if you break a string, you replace the string instead of retuning the whole bass. Since each string can be heightened and intonated separately, you don't need patience of getting the neck right for string height and intonation by playing with the truss rod and raising and lowering the bridge. The sustain is much better on my Bass now. Just try it. It is certainly worth the price.

Comments about Hipshot SuperTone Gibson 3-Point Bass Bridge:

I put this bridge on my new Gibi SG bass. It was trivial to install. It's a very solid, good looking, good sounding bit of hardware. It is a major upgrade over the Gibson 3 point bridge. It allowed me to cure the poor setup of the bass due to its individual string height adjustment.

The one problem I had is when I put thicker strings on the bass, the low E (105 gauge) didn't have enough adjustment range to properly intonate it. However all the other benefits are so good that I'm going to fiddle with other size screws or other ways to pull the saddle back a little more.

Comments about Hipshot SuperTone Gibson 3-Point Bass Bridge:

Excellent upgrade to replace the stock 3 point bridge on my Epiphone Eb-3, came with two sets of anchor bolts, one for Gibson other for for Epiphone. No more lost saddles when string snaps, simple Intonation, action and string spacing adjustments, allan key provided. cant say ive noticed any change to sound or tone, but just being able to make precise adjustments is a massive plus in my book. the Quality and build of the hipshot supertone are second to none, I highly recommend it, looks great also.

I have a new Gibson USA SG reissue. This new bridge is excellent, right out of the box. As expected from Hipshot, installation was a snap. It literally took more time to remove the old strings, than it did to install the new bridge on the body. It improved tone, and especially added lots of sustain. You may want to run the blocks up a little (string height) on the bridge before you install it. Mine came with the blocks all the way down. Will save you some time when you put the new strings on. I Love it.
