These strings have a lot of character. I practice out of a Fender 15w Rumble amp and get a fantastic tone out of it. I see a lot of people complain about the strings losing their tone after a while. I got these strings a while back and stored them away for several month. Got them back out and they sound the same, just make sure you EQ everything right and crank the high end. PERFECT Steve Harris tone.

Like most, I dig Steve Harris and had to try out the Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Bass Strings. The strings sound smooth/rich and are easy to play. However, I had to adjust my Truss Rod and saddles to accommodate the size of these strings. Additionally, I use an original p-bass bridge and if is tilted, the E-string will fall out of the saddle. Keep it level at least for the E. I also had issues with keeping tension using a HipShot.

I love these strings. I do not play a p-bass, nor am I an Iron Maiden fan, But I AM a fan of these strings.Though they are a bit pricey per set, they last a LONG time.

Heavy, thick, crunchy Flat wounds.
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
These strings are the best I have ever used,in fact they are the only strings I have used for the last 3 years.I have been playing bass for 32+ years, and these strings are incredible. They start off very "bright" for flatwounds, and play in real smooth. They sound almost like roundwounds, but don't chew up the fretboard like rounds do.Yeah they cost a bit more than some, but they are worth it, and last a LONG time before sounding dead.
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
Always used round-wounds and was against the sound of the (cheaper) flat-wounds. Recently purchased a new Steve Harris P-Bass. These strings are amazing! My fingers no longer get chewed up. They sound amazing and play fast. I A/B my bass with my friend's Steve Harris P-Bass (his had round-wounds)Through the same amp and my friend couldn't believe how well the Rotosound's sounded and played. I am sold. Excellent.
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
I'm curious how many people actually like these strings vs. the amount of people who like the strings just because Steve Harris uses them.
For starters, these strings are very thick. I typically use medium gauge roundwounds and I found these strings to be huge in comparison. In addition, these strings are also very stiff and tight. This combination made playing even simple basslines very challenging. I couldn't even begin to attempt actual Iron Maiden basslines because my fingers would cramp up (something no other string had done before or since).
Another issue with these strings are that they are flatwound. Yes. Steve Harris uses them and manages to get a very bright tone, but what many people don't know is that he uses a new set for every gig. If you're expecting to have Steve's tone for months on end then think again because the brightness only lasts for a week or two and is gone, leaving you with a very old school 'thump' sound. That said, the old school sound these strings give is very good, but once again these strings are very stiff and hard to play which makes them useless if you play fast music.
Overall, I've owned two sets of these strings and simply don't care for them. For the price you are better off spending your money on a different set of strings. Try a set of Chromes if you want some bright sounding flats. They're cheaper and, in my honest opinion, a much better set of strings.

I got these strings for x-mas for my epiphone thunderbird and at the time I was in a Punk band and it wasn't after two mins of playing with my band that I saw how hard it was playing punk with these strings. One year later I'm with a Post-hardcore band and I still had these strings on my thunderbird and if these strings are in drop-d there awsomeand all I have to say is this: There good for metal but not for punk.

Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
I've been playing bass 22 years. I've used all manner of strings in that time period. Rotosound in general is my choice brand. never had any other brand last as long. Never had a set of standard Rotosounds that lasted as long as these though. Their tone holds for a very long time. the only problem I ever saw with these was hand strain on a longer neck basses ( ESP Tom Arya TA-500 34 scale with 24 frets) Certainly don't put them on any bass with more than 20 frets would be my suggestion. also I recommend putting them on something with a beefy neck and a good truss rod like a fender P. Do NOT stick them on a skinny neck bass or a bass with a goofy truss rod system like a Rickenbacker. You will need to adjust your truss rod and those kinds of basses are just to much work to re adjust. I used these on my 1996 us fender P and they worked like a charm , no fret buzz and only had to make minor adjustment to my truss rod. Plan on getting some more as soon as I can afford them lately I've been budget string buying.

Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
I received Steve's signature bass back in 2010 and it had these strings. I thought I would immediately capture his sound - finally! Wrong. These things are difficult to manage and no matter what amount of truss rod adjustment and/or bridge adjustment I did I could not get the action low enough for me and I could not stop that A string fret buzz. I was very disappointed and eventually made it a player with some quality round wounds.

Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
Normally I use Rotosound Black Nylons, a friend wanted to have me go back to these to do some recording. . These work for just about any kind of Hard Rock/Metal music. After putting these on myself I forgot how great these strings sound. These strings lasted 3 years the last time.
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
Smoothest Flat wounds on the bass string market since the 1960's, and still are today. Semi-bright sound, but also sound very warm and relaxed and have plenty of slapping and popping qualities that Steve Harris is know for in Iron Maiden. If you want your bass to sound like Steve's you must purchase these strings. The only downside is that they don't fit most 34" Fenders. I found this out the hard way when I tried to put a set on my Fender American Vintage '62 Precision Bass, and the E string (110) was to long. I think the Rotosound Company needs to make a set of these in a Medium-Light size, so that they can be put on Fenders (which is what Steve Harris has played his whole career in Iron Maiden). Steve must have his personal set of strings shortened before hand by the Rotosound Company, so they will fit whatever Custom Fender Guitar he plays. All in all a great set of flat wound bass strings to boot.
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
These are the best strings I've ever touched out for bass. Slick and thick for quick notes and slides, as well as giving some serious punch to get through the egotistical guitarist's distortion.
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
Great strings they are tough and the sound is great. The're worth every penny.
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
I have been looking for these strings for many years. I have always played like Steve Harris. But I was missing something. I finally found it. The Rotosound Steve Harris Strings are the final step I have been missing. The strings are perfect for fast licks or the sound of a thumping bass.
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
I purchased a set of these for my Ric 4003, and they are without doubt the best strings I have ever laid hands on. theyre a little stiff for those not used to it, but theyre damn near noisless (no finger squeak) and they have JUST the right brightness, so theyre not brutal sounding. Strings just dont get any better.
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
My girlfriend got me these a few days ago and let me tell you... they are the best bass string that I've ever played! specially if you are into Iron Maiden. I've tried many other flatwounds and rounwounds but nothing comes close to Rotosound. if you are looking to achive Steve's sound, this are the strings for you.
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
these are pretty sweet. the action isn't to heavy and they play very smoothly. but they just arent for me. flat wounds are a whole other world of playing. Note bends slides tapping are very difficult with these strings. Im big on bending notes so I will have to restring once again.
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
these are by far the BEST strings for bass since the sixties! I have used these strings for two years now and i aint changing! Three words: BUY THESE NOW!!!!
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
Never have I used flatwounds on a bass "guitar" before. The last time I felt flats was in high school , When I played double bass in the jazz band. I've played all genres of music my whole life, but deem myself a metal head. Alwsys loved Steve's sound. Needed a new set of strings on one of my old "p's" , thought I'd give 'em a shot. WOW! Changed the sound and feel TOTALLY from the RS66's that it had on it. Had to change the setup some to compensate for the heavy guage, but well worth it. However, I would not recommend them for replacements on just any bass if you're used to rounds. You might be upset. But if you like Steve Harris' sound, and own a P- bass, BUY THEM.
