I purchased the Shadow SH B1 transducer about a month ago and am very well pleased. I put it on one of my resonator banjos and it sounded bad. Took off the resonator and it sounded GREAT!!! I pluged it into my Line Spider amp and used the chorus/flanger and also reverb. Probably any amp with reverb would help. It sounds especially nice with slow melodies. Sure beats the price of an electric banjo. The velcro connection doesn't work very well. I found a small metal bracket and bored two very small holes and mounted the input end to the banjo. I have this mounted now to a open back Rogue banjo and it is a very pleasing sound.

For its price, this was a pretty good banjo pickup. It only took about 5-10 minutes to install and it sounds great. The only downside: no volume and tone control. I was surprised how well it sounded for its price. I would recommend it.

I play in a band that plays rock-folk style songs with acoustic instruments. I've been playing live for a few years and figured I would try this pickup out for the price. I'm always on the road so after I got back this winter I tried the pickup out. At first it was a mess because the banjo bridge kept falling over when I strummed the banjo. After installing the pick underneath the banjo head with some gorilla tape...wow. The pickup sounds just a great as some more expensive pickups I've used in the past. A must but for the price. I just wish it came with a jack to install in the banjo, but the product is still great.

Able to keep the "twang" of the banjo alive by adjusting reverb. Not too sure yet about the way the plug end installs. It is simple with velcro. I can see some modifications in the near future, probably needs some kind of mounting bracket.
Easy install. With my amp very easy to set sound just right.

It was great at first, and was better than having a markley pickup taped to the inside, but say what you will 2 years later the markley still works. However the SHB1 does not (after only a month of playing), and with no luck on customer service with this product, leaves me feeling a little bitter.

I will say that perhaps, I wasn't the gentlest with the cables, but I expected a little more for the price I paid.

Purchased because it was the cheapest banjo pickup that I could find. Easy to install, but I had to use miniature cable ties to secure the wires. This prevented the wires from moving and causing unwanted noise. No volume or tone controls, but I have it sounding pretty good by tweaking the channel through our mixer. I really liked how it maintained the natural banjo sound; I was worried it sound too "electric." Seems like it could be cheaper or come with a custom bridge, but still more economical and easier to install than the other options I found.

I use this pickup a couple times a week to play in a folk rock band in bars and outdoor festivals. I have had problems with it since day one. Sounds different everyday, any sound will cause it to feedback like crazy. Huge waste of money even if used with a nice DI.
