This desk looks great, and had fantastic reviews overall. Figured it couldn't be too bad. It arrived and the packaging was very poor. Loosely shoved in the box, not very-well arranged. The main desk panel came damaged and a piece was falling off. I did not have time to send for another desk, did not plan to have a brand new desk come broken. I will be contacting for a refund, we'll see if service is sufficient.

The desk is poor quality, and poorly designed as a recording desk. The rack rails are soft. I was able to strip some of the holes accidentally with a hand-held screw driver.

Most importantly, the desk's hollow metal legs make a VERY AUDIBLE resonance. When typing it sounds as if I'm typing in a hollow metal tube. With speakers on the desk, they make the desk resonate as well. Really not good. I had better luck with the inexpensive ikea table my computer and speakers were on before.

Stay away if you intend to use for recording, writing, and anything audio related. The sound of the desk will drive you insane!

Great Desk for the Price!

By David Felker

from Undisclosed

Comments about Studio Trends 46 in. Studio Desk with Dual 4U Racks:

I am very satisfied with this product. I looked all over for a nice studio desk that would not break the bank - this one is great for a small home studio. I would highly recommend.
The two built-in racks are great. I was able to rack mount my audio interface, power conditioner, and plan on putting in a rack mount synth - there is plenty of space to rack mount most of your gear. The casters are also nice. It makes it easy to move things around and then lock into place. There is a grommet on the back to organize the flow of cables. You can actually adjust the height of the desk up or down about a half inch with the caster adjustment screws (or you can take the casters off altogether to lower it).
Very sturdy construction - the desk is actually quite heavy (I was not expecting that). It was easy to assemble and everything locks into place. Would like better casters for the wheels but hey, for the price, I am not going to complain. The black frame and cherry finish is very nice and will look good in just about any room.
Great value! The desk looks great and is built well. You won't find anything close for the price.

Great overall product - Great value, thinking on getting a second side car. Perfect for the money!
I never give anything a full 10 stars - because there's always room for improvement. Love the desk, very solid construction, rolls easily. I bought this and the 24" side car. Both a great value compared to other more expensive solutions.

Nice little studio work station, the upper level places monitors at head level. Definetly improves my work flow and quality is decent for this price point. Easy to assemble and the double 4u racks are nice.

Comments about Studio Trends 46 in. Studio Desk with Dual 4U Racks:

For such an expensive and heavy desk, this sure came poorly packaged. Styrofoam did very little to protect against chips and splits in the wood finish. Some screw threads were difficult to engage, metal pieces came out of the box bent. Way too much of a hassle to return or exchange. Just be warned that if you're expecting a 100% pristine piece of furniture that the price tag leads to you believe it is, you'll be disappointed.

Well made but very heavy. It helps to have a freind around to put it together. I did it on my own.
I looked around and this was the least expensive unit I could find that wasn't shoddy.

Comments about Studio Trends 46 in. Studio Desk with Dual 4U Racks:

I looked at home studios, in stores, & online for what would work best for me in a music room / woodshed ex-bedroom in my home. Price & quality were less critical than functionality & efficiency. This would have been the best choice for me at twice the price. And the practicality of substantially more work area made it a good choice over its little brother for only a little more money. Heavier than expected, but that just makes it more sturdy & solid. Biggest surprise? How great it looks with other furniture in the room - it provides contrast in style & color. I miss not having the drawers that were in the desk this replaced, but the functionality of the space & work area gained has made me a very happy camper.

I bought this for my home studio, and it's nice. I don't think it was unreasonably hard to assemble. Seems very sturdy, nice-looking and functional. One thing that gives me pause -- I'm pretty sure this will not fit through a doorway. I assembled it in the room it now lives in, and I hope I don't have to move soon, because I'm pretty sure I'd have to take this thing apart to get it out of that room.

I needed a small desk due to the size of my room. This is great. Assembly was easy and all the pieces seemed to be in good shape. It's sturdy and the wheels actually work well and the 2 wheels in the front lock. So why not 5 stars? Well, as you can see in the picture when you have anything on the desk it's hard to get to the equipment in the rack. I have a laptop and a controller and I can't get to the interface controls without closing or moving the laptop. I have since moved the controller onto a boom arm so it's off the desk and I'm going to move the interface to the other rack which should help.

The merchandise came in two packages very heavy. I spent 4-5 hours (taking my time ) to assemble. The desk looks nice in my room even though, I still have a lot of equipment stored in it. I have a 24 inch IMAC on the top shelf and still have enough space for speakers . The bottom shelf has enough space for a workstation keyboard or a multi track recorder and any other option you desire. This is a great Studio Desk for the price and is also sturdy. My problem now is what to do with my accumulated devices , keyboard and drum machine so the room want look so cluttered.

I've read that the directions were hard and that pieces like screws or bolts would be missing... I had absolutely no trouble understanding or assembling. The desk looks great and is sturdy. I have a 27" monitor and two JBL 308s on the top half of the desk and they surprising fit pretty well! So that's nice...

                    As far as cons though...

Packaging sucks. My desk wasn't scratched which I'm glad for. But I can't say I wouldn't be surprised if some people who orders it, run into that issue.

This next one isn't a big deal. Just that you will need to purchase some screws from gator or whatever for your rack equipment. I mean you don't have to but some people may find that info nice to know.

I definitely recommend this desk to anyone searching for a desk that's affordable and stylish. It's worth the money you spend on it for sure. I plan to get the added rack cart eventually.

Comments about Studio Trends 46 in. Studio Desk with Dual 4U Racks:

When putting together the desk, I realized it did not come with all the right screws. It was supposed to have six 1/2 inch hex bolts, but it only came with one. Yet there were four identical allen wrenches that I could choose from to screw in this one bolt. I called Musicians friend and they said they would mail the other screws to me, no problem.

While I was waiting, I figured I would assemble the other parts that I could. Then the casters would not fit into the left leg. Right leg no problem. Regardless of which casters I tried, it was clear the holes in the left leg were not drilled appropriately. I called back and asked them to send me a new left leg as well. Agent indicated this would be more complicated than the screws, but that he would follow up with the warrantee department to get me a new leg.

After 8 days and nothing in the mail, I called back. This agent was every bit as friendly as the first two, but had difficulty tracking down records of my previous calls and the status of my parts. She gave me her email address and extension number and has committed to following through to get this resolved, but this experience has already been far too much trouble for a desk that cost three hundred clams.

Expect issues. Damage, poor quality, bad rack rail.

The frequent comments about damage didn't scare me away from this. I wish it had. Granted you're not paying for an Argosy desk, but this price for a particle board desk that comes with laminate chipped off in a few places and a dents in the metal legs to the point the powder coating is cracked is just sickening. The boxes didn't looked damaged but the thin foam inside was broken in a few places so I don't know how I got such a piece of junk. After waiting for it on backorder and digging out the pieces of 2 boxes I wasn't about to pack it back up. I think they expect that. One rack rail seems to be tapped incorrectly as none of my screws wanted to thread into it. There is some spacing oddity with the holes as well but my preamp doesn't mind getting bit more air at the top. It is a good sized desk and functions well with the exception of the one side rail. Just expect the worst or spend more money on a real desk.

Comments about Studio Trends 46 in. Studio Desk with Dual 4U Racks:

Desk is decent and it is nice to have dual 4U rack. The black metal finish of the support structure does add a classy look. I was very dissappointed in the packaging. Once box had a damaged shelf and the other box had crushed tubular frame structures. Only one package showed slight damage, and I believe the primary reason for the damage was poor packaging. There were very thin pieces of polystyrene to cushion the heavy materials which did not hold up. Also some of the plastic components had stickers all over them. I do not blame Musicians Friend but rather the manufacturer and the shipping company.

Overall stability improves greatly after rack mount items are carefully bolted in. Efficient assembly, while not overly difficult, must be observed to determine your future success with this unit.

Studio desk arrived in a timely manner and was the design and color looked just like the pictures. Unfortunately when no revived the equipment it wa s damaged. Although the damage was just aesthetic, it was damaged just the same. I made the purchase for my studio and needed it immediately. I did email musicians friend about it but didn't get a response. For the price it was an overall pod buy.
