Superior stability with patented Memory Lock, 5 height settings, stabilizing end caps, and double-braced tubing.

Part of Ultimate Series IQ Series, which are redefining the X-style keyboard stand, the IQ-2200 is a two-tiered stand that brings a whole new level of stability and innovation to the lightweight, gigging-minded design. Offering a range of five height settings for sitting-to-standing playing comfort, the IQ-2200 also features Ultimate Support's patented Memory Lock system and unique stabilizing end caps, giving keyboardists timesaving onstage luxuries along with peace of mind.

The IQ-2200 is ideal for supporting everything from lightweight synthesizers and MIDI controllers to the heaviest of professional keyboard workstations. The first tier supports up to 150 pounds with unheard of strength and stability, while maintaining the convenient, lightweight X-style format that gigging keyboardists demand. With thick, double-braced tubing, heavy-duty bolting, and a generous upper keyboard shelf that supports up to 50 pounds, the IQ-2200 is the cure for the common X-style stand, equally at home on stage, at jams, and in the studio.

Patented Memory Lock System
Equipped with the IQ Series' patented Memory Lock System, the IQ-2200 offers a set-it-once solution that saves gigging and on-the-go keyboardists time and energy. After initially choosing a preferred height position, the Memory Lock opens the stand to the desired height every time. Keyboardists need only to lift and place their instruments once.

Off-set Bracing System for Maximum Knee Room
More than offering five height positions that comfortably accommodate a range of sitting and standing positions, the IQ-2200 features an inventive off-set bracing system. This design feature gives keyboardists more knee room than any other double-braced stand, ensuring that the stand is out of the way and that only the keyboard is in focus during performances.

Stabilizing End Caps Overcome Uneven Surfaces
The IQ-2200's integrated stabilizing system accounts for potentially uneven surfaces at future gig or jam locations and effectively combats potentially instrument-threatening rocks and wobbles. Located on the upper and lower tubes, two rubberized end caps easily rotate, revealing incremental thicknesses to correct the problem. In addition, thick rubber sleeves secure the keyboard on the upper tubes, while keeping the IQ-2200 firmly in place.

Comments about Ultimate Support IQ-2200 2-Tier Double-Braced X-Style Keyboard Stand:

This unit fixes a lot of common issues found with other keyboard stands. However, it manages to add its own problems to the mix that prevent it from being great and, in fact, caused me to replace it with another brand.

First the good stuff: The stand looks great. It is extremely well-built and feels very solid. Construction and welding is top notch. The pipes used to make the stand are a bit smaller than those typically used, but I think the metal might be a little thicker.

The top tier swings down easily and quickly, making the stand very compact and portable in no time.

Get this: the rubber feet, end caps, and friction pads on the stand are actually made of grippy rubber and not cheap, slippery plastic that will just slide off. Finally, grips and bumpers that actually grip and bump! It takes WORK to remove the end caps from this thing, so no more losing them in the van on the way to the show. Nicely done.

The fact that you can turn the end caps to adjust the stability of the stand on "uneven surfaces" is a nice touch, although I have a feeling it is put in place to compensate for manufacturing issues that might result in some stands being more stable or level than others. At the very least, its a creative "feature" to avoid stability issues without having to have NASA do the measurements and fabrication for the product.

The bad stuff: There is absolutely NO way to adjust the top tier which, when put into position with another keyboard placed on it, will sit far too close to the keyboard underneath it and WAY too far over it. Don't like that position? Tough. That's the only one you get. If you have a keyboard on the bottom tier that requires you to reach back past the keys to hit any drum pads, sliders, or knobs, forget it. You'll hand to bend down and reach UNDER the one on top, and you won't be able to see what you're doing. The only way I can see this used with two keyboards is if the bottom one required only the use of the keys and had no additional features that you would need access to. It's that bad. If only you could move the top tier BACK at least six inches, but alas...

The top tier also locks into place with a sheath that simply clamps around the pipe with the use of a knob that you turn by hand. It grips just fine once tightened, but I worry about it loosening over time. There are no locking teeth or anything of that nature to ensure that your top tier will be level or even in the same place every time you put it up. Unless you bring a level with you or draw some lines on your stand after finding the perfect spot, you'll be adjusting over and over again, putting your keyboard on the stand, removing it, and tweaking the position until you like it. One step forward and two steps back with the ease of taking the stand down for storage butting heads with the stupidity of not having any kind of snap-into-place feature when you put it back up.

Overall, I think that this stand does a good job addressing some common issues that cheapen other stands. The rubber grips are great and the construction is top notch. However, the top tier is almost completely nonfunctional and it feels like the whole thing was an afterthought. I returned two of these stands in favor of two ProLine 402s that come with a much more adjustable top tier with a lot more clearance. I sacrificed some of the quality and portability of the Ultimate 2200, but I'd rather have something I can actually use. Fix the issues with that top tier, Ultimate, and next time we can do business.

I would only recommend this stand to someone who buys it as a single tier unit, without the additional tier.

I'm Not So Sure About The Top Tier

Comments about Ultimate Support IQ-2200 2-Tier Double-Braced X-Style Keyboard Stand:

I love the fact that you can make little leveling adjustments to the stand that will keep it stable on just about any surface, but I'm not sure about that top tier. I don't currently have a second keyboard, so I haven't been able to try it out, but I'd have to agree with some of the other reviews I found around the web. The top tier seems awfully intrusive and really covers the bottom keyboard and there's not really a good way to adjust/fix this problem. I'm not sure how they could design such a fantastic keyboard stand and then totally blow it on the top, additional section.
