This is a nice, portable acoustic amp that has good sound quality, and a decent amount of power for its size. The two inputs allow someone else to jack in, or you can have a mic and an instrument plugged in. Be aware that there is a volume control for each input, but the single set of tone and fx controls affect both inputs

I recently used it in my medium-to-large sized church when the PA system went down, and it had no problem filling the space with undistorted sound with the volume set at a little over 50%.

I can recommend this little amp for small to medium-sized indoor venues, as a practice amp, or as a monitor for live performances.

Below are two reviews out of five that mentioned hiss from the amp. Unfortunately, I ignored the warnings. They are correct. I received the amp today and before plugging in and with all pots cranked left (off) as they are right out of the box, I powered up to hear a very audible hiss. Not good. This is not a 60 cycle hum and has nothing to do with bad power or ground loops. It is amp hiss which cannot be rectified.

I bought the amp to place in front of my couch pointing at me to practice at low volumes with effects. My ears are bothered by the constant unclean sound at these low volumes. If the amp had a mic on it for stage work, the hiss would definitely be heard when not playing and possibly within the music.

I am disappointed at myself for not taking those reports seriously. I did so because I trusted the brand and because the design of the amp seemed perfect for my needs.

The amp otherwise is really sweet. The effects are usable and the EQ is very sensitive with fantastic range. It also delivers brilliant highs and soothing warm low end. It is a powerful 20 watts and my baritone ukulele sounds wonderful through it. But the hiss ... it never stops. It is never clean even with the volume off.

I really wanted to keep this amp, but I will be returning it and looking towards a Roland or Fishman both offering higher wattages which I do not need, not to mention the much higher price points.

The experience is a bummer but I have faith in MF's return policy and honest service.

Comments about A20 20W Acoustic Guitar Amplifier:

Like others, I read the reviews stating problems with speaker hiss, but I ignored them in the hope that it was an isolated problem. I was wrong.

The speaker hiss from this amp makes it unusable in a quiet practice setting. Imagine a distortion pedal with all the settings on 10 plugged into an amplifier cranked - that is what this thing sounds like with nothing plugged in, all the dials on 0, and using a clean power source.

It is a beautiful amp with great specs and I wanted to love it, but at the end of the day the hiss is simply to distracting.

Comments about A20 20W Acoustic Guitar Amplifier:

The comments that I see about a hiss troubles me. I use TWO electric/acoustic guitars. Both of the pick-u systems have a screw to adjust the POT hiss. You're blaming this on the AMP and it's just wrong.

Comments about A20 20W Acoustic Guitar Amplifier:

I was looking for a small amp with some bells & whistles to use for all sorts of applications, but not spend a bundle. This model fit the bill perfectly. Unfortunatley all it's great features can't out-weigh the "hiss" sound all the other reviewers are complaining about. I took a chance and ordered an open box model which was noisy just like all the other reviews mentioned. MF sent me a brand new one and it was just as noisy. I am now awaiting a third amp hoping it's from a different batch. I can't believe that Acoustic would allow an entire crop of amps circulate with such poor sound quality. Usually their products are pretty decent. I'm crossing my fingers for this last attempt at a cool little amp.

First thing I noticed when I plugged the amp in was that there is a static sound coming out of the speaker. I contacted MF and Acoustic and they both felt that there should not be any noise. Returned and got a second amp. Same problem. I just felt that it was making too much noise with nothing plugged in to it and all the controls on 0.

Comments about A20 20W Acoustic Guitar Amplifier:

Good idea on paper, bad quality control. I, too, read the negative reviews about the "hiss" in the amp from the moment it's plugged in; so, I went into this purchase eyes wide open. Mine came with the dreaded hiss, so I exchanged it for a 2nd amp with the same problem. You'd think by now I'd just request a refund; but, this baby, if it would work right, is the perfect tool and price. So, considering MF's excellent customer service policy and performance, I'm gonna exchange it again (and again and again, if need be) till I get one that works right.

When I first saw this amp I had to try it. Musician Friend, (they're not the only ones either), didn't have one, so bought elsewhere. Went about 120 miles to try it but was satisfied. I didn't hear any noise like some complained about. Bought it and took it home. Love the sound and features. Deep warmth in sound and plenty loud. Need more run it to sound system mixer. Only thing I'd ask for in effects is a echo. Love this little amp. Little hard to find at the moment.

I read some of the reviews that complained about a hum or a buzz, but went ahead and ordered this anyway. I have not experienced any hum whatsoever. I wanted it primarily for a personal wedge monitor when I am performing. It is great for that application. My mic and guitar can both be plugged in, I can adjust the volume of each, and then I can send a direct signal to the house board. I'm surprised at how loud this amp is. I have the vocal and guitar volumes at about 1/4 and I can really hear myself.

A decent quality amp for the price. I got mine on sale.
The device does as advertised, no more no less.
If I were to use it to perform I'd need to use add-on devices to adjust the outputs to where I like them.
It has an output jack on the rear to connect it to a larger sound system for bigger venues.

Comments about A20 20W Acoustic Guitar Amplifier:

I have a house gig at a theme park. I have to move from venue to venue, and need portability. The venues have TERRIBLE acoustics, high ceilings with glass everywhere. Therefore, I needed a low wattage amp that would fully saturate at low volumes. This thing surprised the heck out of me. It has a centered warmth that fills rooms much larger than you'd expect. The crazy thing is it sonically outguns the Eon line arrays at the facility because they can't reproduce your tones accurately at low volumes. It's major flaws are the lack of individual channel eq's, and thus, the inability to add sizzle to your vocals. I got around this with a tc helicon mic mechanic, which is basically the BBE for vocals. Now, my whole rig sounds great no matter where I play. If I do a bigger show, I use the D.I. xlr output. Be advised this will drastically drop speaker volume and you'll need to crank wide open to monitor with it. This unit has also made me a believer in wedge amps over line arrays for small gigs. Why? Because at a low volume gig, you do NOT want the tweeters shooting at ear level. It's better to deflect upwards, because this actually allows you to crank up a bit for a better tone. My Bose had vastly better high end but didn't reproduce enough midrange at low volumes. Once I started using this amp, I never had a volume complaint again and yet get compliments on my sound wherever I go. You can use an eq pedal through the effects insert and you'll really open it up sonically. Best of all, this thing is sturdy yet light. Your back will thank you. And the little sucker is just fun to use, despite its minor flaws it just has a good vibe to it.

Comments about A20 20W Acoustic Guitar Amplifier:

I have owned the Acoustic A20 for a few weeks. I am a long time player/musician. This amp is pretty good as a bedroom shed amp for acoustics with pickups. You can get a clear sound with enhancements, like more bass or reverb. Retains the "acousticy" quality way better than some electric guitar amp. I have tried it with Takamine classical & steel string, Eastman archtop & flattop. The amp provides a pretty good sound for all.

Not enough power for an actual gig. I was not expecting that, so OK. No good for an electric archtop; too distorted.

Biggest bummer for me: no gain setting/preamp. To get a decent volume from some guitars, turn this amp up to "10". Or, use an external preamp.

Also, the feedback elimination works OK, two knobs. But, even with "level" on "0", the other knob still has a big effect on the sound. Just saying. Poor design there.

Reverb is cheesy but better than nothing. Chorus same; adds feedback. Borderline useless.

I like the amp for the $$; but it is not some pro gear. Good for light home practice use only.

This is a great amp. I did not experience the humming that was reported by other reviews. It allows you (due to the 2 channels) to play acoustic instruments and for voice amplification. It would be good for small venues as well.

This acoustic guitar amp produces crisp and excellent tone sound. The ability to customize how you want your sound to hear is amazing. I was playing around with the controls of the amp and was able to produce the sound that I want on some songs that I play. This was a great buy for me from this site. Pretty much happy with the amp. Not having any issues like some people have posted.
