LowDown tone in a powerful and punchy combo.

The Line 6 LowDown LD400 Pro is a bass amp that offers venue-filling volume and LowDown tone in a powerful and punchy 2x10 combo package. Boasting a relentless, fully adjustable Rock tone, and 4 additional required tones ranging from R&B to Grind, the LD400 Pro bass amp offers power, versatility, and commanding tonal definition for the pro player.

The Line 6 LD400 amp also comes with a crucial set of 5 effects, led by a dedicated studio-quality compressor based on the LA-2A, and including a Smart Control FX Envelope Filter, Octaver, Chorus, and a full-featured bass Synth with fully adjustable parameters.

Designed for the gigging bassist, the LD400 Pro is a versatile amp that features an array of necessary ins, outs, and hardware, including an NL4M-series Speakon speaker output for an external cabinet, a balanced XLR direct output with exclusive A.I.R. processing, a 1/4" preamp output, and a pair of brawny 10" speakers ready to rattle some ribs and project your sound.

Amp Models:

Inspired by the Eden Traveler, this model is all about clean, funk, and fusion bass tone. It'll give you warm lows and punchy highs.

Inspired by a '68 B-15 Flip Top, this model is a tribute to those clean, fat, bass tones of the late 60's and early 70's. It is the kind of tone you hear on most Motown recordings, as played by the pioneering young bassist James Jamerson.

This model is inspired by the '74 Ampeg SVT which has appeared on innumerable recordings and arena stages worldwide. Now, all the tone of the head and 300-pound behemoth 8x10 cab is available without having to lookup a chiropractor.

Based on a '68 Marshall Super Bass, this model delivers the kind of overdriven bass sounds brought to us by late '60s British rock pioneers like Cream and The Who.

As the name would suggest, this is for the modern rock sound of the late '90s and the new millennium popular in bands like Alice in Chains, Mudvayne, and Rage Against The Machine. Based on a distorted SansAmp PSA-1 into an SVT with a direct clean bass signal mixed in, this model gives you that angry, clear, and punchy aggression that cuts through the mix and takes your sound to DEFCON 1.

Effects models:

This pro LA-2A-style compressor is ideal for helping every bass player - particularly the ones who play with their fingers -- achieve a smooth and consistent signal at any volume.

Envelope filter

Based on a Q-Tron, this envelope filter effect can be heard on tons of major funk and rock tunes.

Based on the EBS OctaBass, this effect produces a single note one octave below the note you're playing to add a powerful new vibe to your sound.

Based on the much loved T.C. Electronic Chorus, this transparent, smooth, and expressive chorus was built for bass, and using it won't reduce your low end. It's an especially beautiful complement for fretless basses.

Sitting at the back of the model knob is this secret weapon that turns LowDown into a '70s classic bass synth. From funk to modern rock, this fully adjustable synth delivers incredible tones while tracking every dynamic move you make.

Next Generation Bass Amp

Comments about Line 6 LowDown LD400 Pro 2x10" 400W Bass Combo Amp:

This is NOT the usual "Plug-and-Play" amp! If you're tired of bass amps that only offer a multi-band equalizer and maybe a "Deep" switch as the only options for tonal control then try this amp. Extracting interesting and professional tones from this amp requires a lot of attention to detail and patience. Producing original tones with this amp reminds me of programming those old subtractive synthesizers of the late seventies and eighties. Actually the synth mode converts all of the panel controls into those of a synthesizer. The more knowledge and experience you have programming synthesizers the more success you'll have working with this amp. However when you do successfully create a patch this amp will faithfully push the tone out! This thing is very loud for 400 watts. Each time you change an amp model get ready to readjust all of your other settings. Then when you finally discover something that you like save it to one of the four channels. If you plan on creating a large number of your own tones I highly recommend that you purchase the FBV Shortboard because it has four channels each containing 9 banks a total of 36 user storage locations. Although this amp is about the size of an average sized bedside drawer this thing is heavy (100lbs) I really love this amp because its the only one that I've ever used that offer so much tonal potential in such a powerful compact package!!!

Comments about Line 6 LowDown LD400 Pro 2x10" 400W Bass Combo Amp:

I had a chance too play this amp, and needless to say I was quite disappointedFirst off all, Line 6 does not start off with any good sounding amp models, average is the best I can rate them. As a bass player I want a good sounding amp first. The fact that the amp has some effect and other capabilities is nice, but if it doest sound FIRST, all is for nothing. My major concern with this amp whereas it is loud, but it does sound muffled, and it is truly missing missing the adjustable horn. The best thing has is its construction and its compressor. If you'rer not particularly concern about your sound coloration, and effects is your thing, then this is amp is for you, otherwise, I strongly suggest you consider another manufacture.

Great Value and Quality Bass Combo

By CorvetteVince63

Comments about Line 6 LowDown LD400 Pro 2x10" 400W Bass Combo Amp:

I recently switched from many years of guitar over to Bass. I have been using a 1/15" Combo but began getting overpowered when we added a second guitarist in the band. The LD 400 has more than enough power and sound to handle the small clubs we play and I look forward to adding an additional cabinet. I have used it for about a month and am still experimenting with the settings. I am using the basic pedal which allows me to switch between 4 preset sounds, which for right now is ok.

Powerful / Versitile / Value

Comments about Line 6 LowDown LD400 Pro 2x10" 400W Bass Combo Amp:

Let me start by saying that I am a gear guy. I have a bunch of basses, and a few amps. The last combo I bought was rated at 250 watts. I thought it should be PERFECT for those "background music" type of gigs. It was WAY under rated in power. The biggest reasons I chose this was: more power - 400 watts should do the trick. Versitility - I am a Line6 fan, and appreciate their "swiss army knife" approach. This amp also needed to have wheels. I don't want to take my moving equipment to a dinky gig. This amp scores maximum points on all of them. Well, -1/2 point for the little wheels. The sound is as versitile as they come. It is well made, and sounds great! It highly recommend this to anyone who plays multiple styles in the same set. GREAT JOB Line6!

There's better out there

By Bass Player Number 1

Comments about Line 6 LowDown LD400 Pro 2x10" 400W Bass Combo Amp:

I used this in a rehersal studio not very long ago. The sound quality was not very good. I couldn't get a decent bass tone that provided the clarity to break through in a THREE PIECE BAND. I would prefer less amp models for a better overall tone. The 1 thing I did like was the compression, actually pretty decent! I own an Acoustic B200 I would take that any day over this product.

Great sounds and Great buy

Comments about Line 6 LowDown LD400 Pro 2x10" 400W Bass Combo Amp:

I was very very excited to plug this monster in and start rumbling. Don't care for the grind and synthe. I have no use for these modelings, but the rest are great. This amp allows you to change your sound almost effortless. Great tones and great volume.

Nice Versatile Amp, with one minor flaw.....

By J. Levine

from none of your business

Comments about Line 6 LowDown LD400 Pro 2x10" 400W Bass Combo Amp:

if you can live with that low level distortion in the Clean channel,...a semi-powerful, versatile combo bass amp
all the features you would expect a bass amp to have, with 5 amp models, synth, tuner, DI out, and more...
seems to be rugged...and pumps out what youd expect from a 400W combo
Heavy as a motherf^&$er! (95lbs)

Eden model sounds like it should, but.. (more on that in a sec...)
the SVT model sounds great
the Marshall Super Bass & Grind sounds like it should (if youre into that distorted tone)
the Synth is very cool and interesting
Opto-Comp does what it should

The one the Eden channel, (Clean) there is a digital distortion when playing at more quiet levels...i sent the first one back, and received another amp with the same problem...contacted Line6 about it.. they basically said "yeah, can't have everything" without actually saying it..but to be fair,...youre really not going to notice it when youre playing at a normal volume..
it's a great value (especially if you can haggle the $$$ down from the base price)

This amp is amazing

Comments about Line 6 LowDown LD400 Pro 2x10" 400W Bass Combo Amp:

This is by far one of the best amps you can get, the sound is amazing, and its built hardy enough to survive a world war. This amp is extremly loud and once you hit 3 on the volume it sky rockets. it could have more effects on it and i dont care for the grind or synth. If your looking for a loud high quality amp that will let you explore the outer reaches of your capabilities get this amp.

Comments about Line 6 LowDown LD400 Pro 2x10" 400W Bass Combo Amp:

I had a chance to play through one of these amps a while back. I am just a beginner but am starting pick up on what does and does not sound good. This thing sounds dam good. It's no high dollar mesa or ampeg, and I'm not exactly sure where I come down on the whole modeling thing yet. But for someone like me, I can start playing around with a lot of different sounds with out droping a lot of serious cash.
