All-tube power you can shape any way you want!

The Engl Screamer 50 delivers the sonic goods--tons of tone and a palette of hip sounds from squeaky clean to hi-gain shred and everything in between. This all-tube amp is a beast that delivers many different sound styles. The Screamer amp head comes complete with a bit of technical wizardry, which you'll find useful where it counts most--out there in the real world of rehearsing and gigging.

Among these features are a Lo/Hi Gain switch, which in effect doubles your choice of channels from 2--Clean and Lead--to 4--the afore-mentioned, plus Crunch and Heavy Lead. And then there's the ingenious feature "VLS": an adapted version of the extremely popular and highly practical Master A/B switching circuit found on high-end Engl heads. Quality components, excellent workmanship and strict quality control ensure that the Screamer 50 amp head retains its value.

Comments about Engl Screamer 50 50W Guitar Amp Head:

Overall, this is an incredible piece of musical gear. Perhaps it's the nostalgia associated with my first real tube amplifier, but even after years of buying, selling, and trading amplifiers, I just can't bring myself to sell my Engl.

Pros: This amplifier is incredibly simple to use, but don't confuse simplicity with a lack of features. The amplifier has everything you need to dial in the perfect tone (see the details in the product description). The thing I find most useful, however, is the hi/lo gain switch, found on the front panel of the amplifier. When the switch is set on the lo setting, the mids are boosted to give the drive channel a chunky, in your face type of distortion. It is very similar to an old school Marshall sound. When the hi gain switch is engaged, the mids are scooped out, the bass is boosted, and the gain automatically becomes more smooth and saturated, perfect for metal, or glassy, Petrucci-like lead lines (keep in mind, however, that this amplifier is much more tame as far as the gain is concerned. I almost always use a clean boost on the front of mine when I play any type of metal, or when I solo). The amp sounds fantastic, and every bit as good as the SE models, only with far fewer features. Apart from the drive channel of the amplifier, the amplifier boasts a beautiful clean sound every bit as good as the drive channel. Many amplifiers include a clean channel out of necessity, but in the Screamer, the cleans sound incredible.

The Engl Screamer is built like a tank. Before I purchased it, my Engl was dropped down a few stairs. The tubes were busted and the reverb tank became disconnected, but other than that, the amp was fine. I've had the amplifier for several years now, and I've had NO problems with it, whatsoever. Engl is known for high-quality, and they spared none with the Screamer.

Cons: For me, the Engl Screamer is plenty loud, but I'm sure that there are people out there that will be expecting a little more volume from a 50-watt. The Screamer is loud, but I have a 20-watt combo that is almost as loud as the Screamer, full-throttle.

I use the amplifier for recording in the studio, and for live application. For both, it works really well!
